Question from century to century: to dive seedlings or not
One will say: of course, dive! Another: of course not! Each of them will show their good seedlings. Why is that? And what should you do?
Gardeners with long experience do not read :) This is for those who doubt.
I will be talking about amateur seedlings on windowsills. About goals, problems, dangers.
Terms
Picking - the plant is dug in and transplanted, sometimes the root is shortened.
Transshipment - move the seedlings to a large container and to permanent residence with an intact clod of earth. It's easier and safer. Two hours before the start of the transshipment, the seedlings are watered, in this case the land ball does not fall apart. Recommend.
Does it make sense to dive
The first meaning - space under phytolamps is limited. If you light up, you will have to use small containers. This way more plants will get the precious light vitamins.
Second meaning - selection. The seeds are strong and weak. The place on the windowsill and in the garden is not rubber. I want to get the maximum yield from each seed.
The weak are of little use. I sow several tomatoes in small, shallow containers. It turns out to be useful competition. I choose stronger sprouts and dive them.
Third meaning - guaranteed to avoid root and root rot, as well as soil acidification.
We are just gradually increasing the volume of the landing containers. Water in moderation. Then the soil is guaranteed not to acidify.
The advantage of a pick
If a pick is conceived, you can sow first into the soil with a minimum amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Then move to more "fat" soil.
Dangers with dives
- With an early pick, some complain that the seedlings are dying. Even in the first year of my farming, picking peppers and tomatoes on days 6-8 was the most successful. If you want, try, just not on the most valuable seeds. Do not touch the stalks with your hands, dig in - and transplant from the shoulder blade into a new depression.
- You can miss the moment of transplanting from the general tank. Then the roots will be difficult to separate, they will break.
- Usually picks postpone the beginning of fruiting, this is stress for the plant. Accordingly, the seedlings take up space on the windowsill longer. Transshipments have practically no effect on terms.
Dive or not, what have you chosen and why?
I would be grateful for your subscription and communication :)
