Good soil for seedlings
It came to sowing my experimental tomatoes. The idea is described here
The seeds hatched successfully, 100%. What I soaked in, read here
I planted it in good soil. Isn't it too bold a statement: good? I'll tell you what meaning I mean by this word. Below I wrote how I chose.
Good soil, in my opinion
- In which seeds germinate and grow successfully
- Which does not sag 2 times at the first watering and does not compact to disgrace
- Without insects flying out and crawling out on seedlings at its tender age
- Without putrefactive microflora and other byak
Beware of dirt in supermarkets. I didn't run up, but people had such passions...
My seeds still like everything, they are already sprouting. The picture for January 7 is this:
The first shoots appeared on January 6, not all the tomatoes have emerged yet.
Purchase logic :)
The logic turned on when reading the cherished words on the door of a well-known garden store: 20% discount :) In fact, of course, this is not the main factor.
I bought soil "For seedlings", this is important. It has significantly less nitrogen in comparison to other names such as "For tomatoes". Nitrogen and phosphorus are antagonists; phosphorus is needed for rooting.
The substrate is not my favorite. But it was tested on a reputable site. The result is good for everyone. I bought a bag. With him and the beginning of the season.
I will not write the manufacturer, so as not to be considered an advertisement, but in the comments write your favorite types of purchased soil. And who makes his own substrate - it will be pleasant to read.
There were many inclusions of undecomposed organic matter in the soil. This is usually considered a disadvantage, the substrate is sorted out or sieved. I left all this stuff for the multiplication of bacteria. Nothing wrong.
How I prepared the soil mixture
I prepared the soil mixture very simply, I added a handful of Diatomite to 2 liters of purchased substrate. And that's all.
I decided that Diatomite is better than vermiculite and agroperlite. Because it's porous. At the same time, it is a source of silicon available to plants. I have already added it to the tomatoes, it worked out fine, now I added it earlier and more.
For seedlings at this stage, almost nothing is needed, it will germinate in vermiculite on seed reserves. Then I will choose more carefully what to add to the purchased substrate.
How is your relationship with the soil going?
I would be grateful for your subscription and communication :)
