How to calculate the time of sowing tomatoes for seedlings
Without additional lighting
Do not sow seeds for seedlings when "And Natasha has already planted!"
It can be easily calculated. Most varieties of tomatoes and peppers are grown without supplementary lighting.
In fact, nothing bad will happen from the fact that you sow the seeds a little earlier or later. This calculation is for our confidence that we do everything on time. We sow on time and plant seedlings for permanent residence on time.
Only four digits are needed:
- What day in your area the daylight hours will be 12 hours
- The minimum time from sowing dry seed to full germination in tomatoes is at least 4 days.
- 7 days for each pick or add. If they are.
- The period before the start of fruiting is indicated on the seed packaging.
Full shoots are when the cotyledon leaves have fully opened.
Daylight hours
We go to the Internet and find when in our area the length of daylight hours will be 12 hours
So, I found a suitable site and found out that in Kursk the daylight hours are 12 hours and 3 minutes on March 18, 2020. From this date I begin to count.
Lunar calendars are a fairy tale for an amateur. And the length of daylight hours is an important thing.
12 hours of daylight hours is a living wage for tomatoes.
Example
We look at the label. What do we have? Early tomato. From full germination to the beginning of fruiting 90 days. Where will we grow? In the greenhouse.
So that the tomatoes immediately after germination get their twelve-hour day, we plant them 4 days earlier (the minimum time until full germination).
March 18 minus 4 days = March 14 sowing (even with soaking, even without)
At this point, the calculation can be completed. Sowed! But will our soil have time to warm up?
The 90 days indicated on the label are halved. This is the best time to plant seedlings for permanent residence.
- Full shoots no earlier than March 18
- Plus 7 days for one pick (the same amount for bedding)
- Plus 45 days
It turns out landing for permanent residence of the earliest tomatoes on May 8. The soil in the greenhouse will warm up, I hope it will have time.
This means that all tomatoes, early and late, can be sown on March 14th.
Do not forget about the obligatory weekly hardening. In our example, from May 2.
If the season is cold, it will turn out that the seedlings grow over time, this is not critical.
How do you like the calculation method?
