Everybody says black self-tapping screws
The term - "black self-tapping screws", many construction specialists are even afraid to pronounce aloud. Is it really that bad with them?
Even at the beginning of my construction, I knew about many of the intricacies of the construction business only by hearsay, but I had no idea about much at all.
So, the question of fasteners for me was very general.
- Nails.
- Self-tapping screws.
- Bolts.
Something like this. And the fact that each of this type of fastener has a bunch of subspecies, and secrets, I had to learn ahead... But what I've always wondered is general disliketo one type of fasteners - these are "black screws".
Maybe I got the wrong impression, but on the Internet, wherever a question about them came, everyone started, almost denying it ...
But at my construction site, black self-tapping screws, so far, have played only a positive role.
๐น Formwork under the foundation.
This is my first, global construction. And absolutely all of it was assembled on black self-tapping screws.
Here is an article on how I assembled the formwork: "Formwork for the foundation. How one head replaces many hands. "
For me, working with a screwdriver was more convenient than with a hammer.
โ Moreover, after the foundation had already been poured and stood all winter, I could barely make out everything. All the boards were poured with concrete on the outside, and it was impossible to unscrew everything with a screwdriver.
And where it was necessary to work as an assembling machine, it was very difficult to pull out the screws. And I remember units that have broken. The vast majority of boards, pulled out through the head of the screw, and he remained in place.
๐น Fence.
Metal base and wooden slats.
Here is an article about the subtleties of manufacturing: "DIY fence. Consider my mistakes. "
So, all the boards are screwed to the base, with the same black self-tapping screws (metal only). And everything is holding up perfectly, for two years now.
Lots of auxiliary fasteners.
This is where black self-tapping screws have always helped me out.
Ladder, temporary scaffolding, lintel formwork in the openings... You can go on for a long time. Wherever it was necessary to fix something, this fastener was at hand.
โ And during these two years, my construction, I have questions, only about the durability of black screws.
Of course, I will never use them in fasteners of important structures, where you expect them to last for decades of operation. It's not worth the risk here.
And the rest is cheap, affordable, and (compared to many) is reliable!
