I prepare openings for the installation of double-glazed windows. What to do and what not to pay attention to?
In aerated concrete, you can at least completely saw through the opening for the installation of a window, and it will not be difficult to modify the finished one at all. But here, too, I thought about the need for some solutions.
Even at the masonry stage, I tried to make sure that later I did not have to make significant modifications when installing both doors and windows.
And now, the winter has passed. My film windows are already torn to shreds, which means it's time to install double-glazed windows.
Opening preparation is the first step.
And here two questions need to be resolved:
1. Smoothness of edges.
I've seen examples where people have ruled out each face for a perfect square. But I don’t understand why?
It is clear that you need to observe angles of 90 degrees. But why waste time cutting the perfect plane?
In my openings, the bottom and top edges are already smooth. Only the sides remained to earn extra money. And here, I saw off only the strongly protruding parts of the blocks. And I did not even touch the 5 mm drops. They will not affect the installation of the window.
2. Do "quarters" in the opening, or not?
Here too, there are supporters of each method. In the case of aerated concrete, they can be cut out, or glued. And what are they for?
- Do not allow the frame to fall out during installation? There are other ways to do this.
- No blowing of the assembly seam? So the house will still be sewn up outside, and this issue will be resolved there.
- Hides the frame and makes a nice look? Again, finishing can achieve this.
✅ Well, I don't see adequate reasons to waste my time and energy on this. A straight opening is the simplest and most working option.
So, for all the preparation, I spent literally half an hour.
- Check the corners.
- Saw off several protruding blocks.
❗ I hope this will be enough for the installation of windows.
