What is better, stainless steel or plastic, for a filter in a well? Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages. But how to make a choice if you have never encountered it?

Here is the next challenge on my construction path. And once again, you don't know what will await you.

After preparing all the components, for do-it-yourself drilling (how I did it, read here), it remains to resolve the issue with the main element of the well, the filter.

And there are subtleties here.

Material is something to think about.

Stainless steel, which many call eternal, it will not always be so. And here everything depends on the quality of the material, and the aggressiveness of the environment in which it will be located.

✅ And when it comes to very fine mesh, even small changes can affect its throughput.

And this is where the polymer material wins.

❗ This is the opposite plus here. And the plastic mesh will be much better in durability.

Although her installation had its own troubles.

• Just cutting off a piece and strapping it to the pipe will not work. Plastic fibers unravel quickly at the edges.

• Fixing is also problematic, since the material is trying to return to its original shape.

Therefore, I proceeded in the following way:

I cut off the mesh with a hot knife on the burner, thereby sealing the edge. (It will be faster and more convenient with a soldering iron, but I just don't have it).

And then, with the same knife, he connected the mesh into a solid "tube", also soldering the edges.

After all these procedures, it only remained to fix the mesh on the pipe with clamps, bending the free edge so that the mesh was tightly pressed.

It seems to be nothing complicated, but without these little things it is simply impossible ...

Even the first time I succeeded and the net sat down well.
