Got some reinforcement in concrete? "5 proven ways to get around it"

click fraud protection

Sometimes you drill a concrete wall, the drill has stopped in place and will not move a single millimeter. Whistles, warms up, burns out, but does not go forward. Hit the armature. I will tell you 5 proven in practice ways to get around it.

There is such a law - meanness. Until you know about some difficulty, you do not face it. But as soon as you know, the fittings start to come across in every wall. Sorry, but I have already told you about the problem. So let's look at how to deal with it.

The simplest solution

We met reinforcement in the wall, retreat to the side of 1.5-2 centimeters and drill a new hole. If you are not sure which reinforcement you hit (horizontal or vertical), we make the displacement diagonally.

It is easy to understand that an armature stands in the way of the drill. We insert a magnetic screwdriver (magnetized nail or dowel) into the hole. Metal shavings will appear at the tip.
Move the hole to the side.

The most correct decision

There are special drills for concrete and reinforcement on sale. They pass through metal as well as through concrete. As a rule, they have a tetrahedral or crown cutting part.

Such drills cost several times more expensive than conventional ones. Buying it to make one hole is not very smart.
There is a special tool for drilling on reinforcement.

If the reinforcement is hooked tangentially

We leave the entrance to the hole in the same place. Then we set the drill a little at an angle. After that, inside the hole expands slightly and the drill passes next to the reinforcement.

The method may not work in high-strength concrete. In order not to leave a broken-off red-hot drill in the wall, we press on the perforator wisely, and not with all the foolishness.

If you hit the center of the rebar

We insert into a screwdriver or drill a metal drill of the same diameter as the drill with which it was drilled. We drill through the reinforcement. It is not necessary to drill it right through. As soon as you hear that the metal is strongly "scuffing" on the concrete, you can stop. Even if the reinforcement is not drilled to the end, the drill will do its job.

A drill for metal after such an operation will have to be thrown away. Or you may need more than one drill. Better to take with a margin. Or get ready to undermine it along the way.

The rod goes through the hole in the socket

Even expensive crowns do not always cope with reinforcement. It is especially a pity to throw them away because of one victorious soldering that flew off. Therefore, giving - "eyes on the forehead" - is not our method.

We knock out small grooves near the rod with a puncher outside the socket. We cut the metal with a chisel and continue drilling. You can make cuts with a grinder and pull out a piece of reinforcement that interferes with us. There will only be a lot of dust, even with a vacuum cleaner.

Yes, it turns out not quite neat and aesthetically pleasing. However, putty is our everything. Let's fix it on finishing.
1. We hollow out with a puncher. 2. Cut with a grinder.

Bonus solution

There are applications for the phone "metal detector", "metal detector", "magnetometer" and others. We install and our phone, due to electromagnetic interference, begins to respond to the approach to metal.

It remains to first "ring out" the place of drilling.

Unfortunately, such a "device" is not very accurate. But in a number of situations, he can help out. Due to design features, not all phones support this option.

That's all for me today. If the material was useful to you, do not forget about the "thumbs up" 👍.Subscribe to the channel here.
