Colorado beetles did not eat eggplants - no chemicals, no broom with a basin
The neighbors are growing potatoes. In season with a basin and a broom, Colorado beetles are collected daily (ideally).
This circumstance prompted me not to plant eggplants for 2 years in a row. Attempts to hide these delicate plants behind a greenhouse were unsuccessful. I collected beetles 3 times a day, but they still managed to eat eggplants so much that the harvest was funny.
This year, they fenced off a plot for them: just a bar and polycarbonate is screwed to it. One bolt door. Everything is adjusted so that there are no cracks. Height 1 m (this is half a sheet of polycarbonate in width) Sealed edge at the top, cut at the bottom so that rain does not fall.UV protected side to the south facing out.
The eggplants were all undersized, so it happened, the seeds were gift. And I like that there is no need to tie. Self-sufficient!
I read the advice on hiding the favorite delicacies of the Colorado beetles behind a fence for a long time on the Internet. Enough 50 cm height. Like, females crawl, they will not crawl, and flying males without females are not interested.
The first experience was unsuccessful. Instead of polycarbonate, we had plastic wrap. While she held on, there were no bugs. But then it was "blown away" by the wind in one place, and the Coloradas had a second wave of summer, well... the Coloradas had fun. If you want to make a similar design, consider the wind!
It is believed that where they were, 4 years you can not plant nightshades. We got it only 3 years, we couldn't find a better place. And what do you think? Young Colorado trees were collected from two bushes on the back of the leaf. And a little beetles for 2 times. Apparently, someone was waiting in the land for their time. So the four-year rule is correct.
And a short overview of my varieties this year
Liked it! Positive, original colors, delicious. Just in case, they doused all the fruits with boiling water, there was no bitterness.
I liked this one very much, the eggplants turned out to be the largest, more than half a kilo. Their pulp is more tender, cook faster.
Carlson liked him less, in form he was rarely plump, as he should. And it was he who quickly overripe and became inedible. But his yield is good, tasty.
How are your eggplants doing?
I would be grateful for your subscription and communication :)
