Army life hack. Now feet do not freeze even in severe frost
When I was a foreman at a construction site, I faced such a disaster - whatever I did, my feet freeze. The shoes seem to be warm. In addition, it should be warm all day on the move. But you run around the construction site and by lunchtime your toes get so cold that you can hardly feel them.
One of the workers helped me out in this situation. He shared a trick that they had in the army. At that moment, he even slightly regretted that he himself did not serve.
The first thing I tried to do to keep my feet warm was to wear warmer boots. It turned out that this only aggravates the problem.
Of course, it is comfortable to sit in boots with insulated fur lining. However, such shoes are not very suitable for intensive “work walks” on a frosty day.
When you move a lot, your legs immediately get warm. Even if they froze before that. It's getting warm. Good. Then they start to sweat. The fur in the boots becomes damp and sometimes even damp. Its warming properties come to naught.
The builders will understand me. This is the same as insulating a house with mineral wool and not plastering it for the winter. The insulation is saturated with water, freezes through. Instead of warming, we get an ice coat.
Theory is good. But I didn't know what to do in practice with this disaster. I didn't really want to plaster the inside of the boots. It turns out that the army has long learned to deal with this problem.
If there is a day to stand on patrol, the soldier wraps a newspaper under his footcloth. The leg starts to sweat - the newspaper does not let moisture out. Absorbs excess moisture. The footcloth remains dry and warm. I used this technique.
The footcloths are really gone now. However, this technique works well with socks too.
I began to wrap my bare foot with a newspaper (just as they once did with a footcloth). He put on a thin sock on top (so that the shoes do not sting). The main thing is that the boots are warm enough.
The only inconvenience is that the newspaper has to be changed periodically. It is enough for a couple of hours of running around the construction site.
Comrade really advised one more technique. But I didn't really like it. To keep the fur of your boots dry as long as possible, just pull the bag over the newspaper. And already on him a sock.
By the way, it is very comfortable with the newspaper. But the package, in my opinion, is really a perversion. It is easier then to glue women's pads on the insoles. Although, this is a matter of taste. Whom it is more convenient.
So we insulate ourselves and do not freeze. Let's hope that we will spend this winter on the move, and not in apartments in self-isolation. Success to all.
