Homemade filler router. Drilling on the plane of furniture parts
In recent publications, I gave drawings of a homemade filler mill and gave some examples of its use.
These examples have shown the use of such a dowel assembly tool. This is drilling holes in the end or edge of the board and, accordingly, in the plane with the edge of the board.
More details can be found here and here.
How about joining two boards at a considerable distance from the edge and also at an angle.
When drilling at the end of the board and, accordingly, in the plane along the edge, it is not difficult to apply a homemade additive router - the emphasis is placed on half the thickness of the board, the first hole is made along the limiter, and the remaining holes are made with a step laid in the very device. But in order to make holes corresponding to the end face in the plane and even at an angle, you need to prepare.
First you need to mark the edge of the board - that is, how it should be installed.
Next, you need to draw a perpendicular line where the first hole will be and mark the distance from the center of drilling to the edge of the router platform. You also need to add or subtract half the thickness of the board, depending on which side of the board its edge was marked on.
At the marked distance, you need to fix the support bar with clamps.
The perpendicular stop is removed from the device and then the first hole is drilled along the markings, with support on a fixed bar.
The next step is to place a restrictive dowel.
And already with its help the remaining holes are drilled.
Thus, a series of holes is obtained, located strictly along the marked line at the desired distance, and also completely coinciding with the holes at the end of the board.
