How to make a jointer knife sharpener
Earlier I already talked about how I sharpened knives for the planer - you can read here, as well as how he made a device for sharpening knives of an electric plane - about this look here.
This time I propose to look at one more simple device for sharpening jointer or planer knives. A pair of knives are sharpened in it at the same time.
How can I make this device I found on the site the Spaniard Suso Caamanho (Suso Kamanyu).
For manufacturing, you need a block of hard wood, such as oak.
With the help of a circular saw, two cuts are made in the bar at an angle along the thickness of the knives. Usually the factory sharpening of such knives has an angle of 45 degrees, respectively, the cuts must be made at this angle.
Further, without changing the settings of the saw, the corners are cut from the sides of the bar, this is to make a comfortable handle for holding the device.
Next, the bar is cut to fit the knives.
The side cutouts are also convenient for the knife fixing screws.
Further, the sharpening itself: sandpaper of different grain size is glued onto a flat surface.
Thick glass or a mirror can be used as a flat surface.
Sandpaper can be moistened with water to improve the quality of sharpening.
After sharpening, the knives are installed in the machine, adjusted and you can work further.
In my opinion, a fairly easy-to-repeat device that will help sharpen knives for a jointer or planer.
