How do nutrunners differ from screwdrivers?

One day I decided to buy myself some tools and went to a hardware store with a friend. He asked me a question - if you already have a screwdriver, why do you also need a screwdriver? I replied to him that I just really love a variety of instruments! But I noted for myself that not everyone knows the difference between these tools. Therefore, today I decided to talk about how nutrunners differ from screwdrivers.

I'll start by explaining that a screwdriver is an electric tool that is designed to work with fasteners of various types - screws, self-tapping screws, bolts. Using a screwdriver, they can be screwed in and out quickly and effortlessly. In addition, the screwdriver is often supplemented with a drill function. It is usually not as powerful as a stand alone tool, but you can still make the holes you need in everyday life.

The wrench is similar to a screwdriver in the mechanism of work. But it is more specific. The wrench is intended only for loosening and tightening nuts and bolts. On other fasteners, he most often rips off the heads, which only complicates the workflow. The impact wrench is rarely used in everyday life, except perhaps only by motorists. Most often it is bought by professional builders, assemblers of furniture and other products, auto mechanics.

The main differences between impact wrenches and screwdrivers are:

1. The screwdriver covers a wider range of work with various fasteners.

2. The wrench will do an excellent job of tightening the bolts, and the screwdriver will easily screw the self-tapping screw into the required surface.

3. Instrument dimensions and weight. A wrench is larger and heavier than a screwdriver.

4. Power. If high mass is more likely a minus of a wrench, then high power is a plus. The power of nutrunners is higher than that of screwdrivers.

5. The screwdriver is equipped with a chuck with a clamping mechanism. And the wrench has a nut holder. To work with drills or bits, you will need to purchase additional adapters.

6. The screwdriver is not designed to use tangential impact.

Both tools may have additional functions and features. This will depend on the manufacturer and model. But the main differences between impact wrenches and screwdrivers are just such.

And, perhaps, we can say that a screwdriver is a tool that is necessary in every home. It will be needed both in everyday life and in the profession. And the nutrunner is still more often used by specialists who regularly deal precisely with tightening and unscrewing bolts and nuts.
