In a recent post about hinge cutter there were comments that the insertion of loops is yesterday and the last century.

I propose to see if this is so.

There are several types of door hinges on sale now: detachable awnings, universal hinges, butterfly hinges, screw hinges and hidden hinges.

Detachable awnings.

Such awnings, according to which side the door opens, are divided into right and left.

The door on such hinges can be removed without unscrewing the hinges themselves.

And these loops refer to mortise hinges.

Universal hinges.

Also refer to mortise hinges. These hinges are one-piece and, if necessary, dismantle the door; they must be unscrewed.

Butterfly hinges

Such loops are classified as overhead loops. This is perhaps the easiest hinge to install and does not require a tie-in. And this is probably why they are quite popular, but there are little things here that are sometimes forgotten.

These hinges are designed for a maximum load of 20 kg per hinge.

I do not know how exactly this load is calculated: simply from the weight of the door or taking into account the lever that occurs when the door is opened.

In my opinion, "Butterfly" hinges are appropriate to use only for light ("paper") interior doors.

Also, when installing such hinges, it is quite easy to deflect them from the vertical axis, which can lead to rapid loosening of the hinge.

Screw hinges

Such hinges are used to install doors with a quarter (influx). When installing such hinges, a certain skill in drilling without distortions is already required.

Also, such hinges usually have the ability to adjust in three planes.

Hidden hinges

These are perhaps the most expensive hinges and require some skill during installation.

When the door is closed, such hinges are completely hidden in the canvas and frame.

How many hinges should be put on the door.

I found just such a picture, I think it will help determine the number of loops.

That is, according to the table, we can conclude that for doors over 30 kg, three hinges may already be required, and this depends on the characteristics of the hinge.

And as a result: insertion of loops is far from being yesterday and you need to choose which loops to put, you need to wisely.
