After how many meters is the well considered artesian?
I'll start by saying that the question in the title sounds completely incorrect. Many people believe that artesian water appears at a certain depth underground. But no, it isn't. Let's figure out what an artesian well is, and where you can still get artesian water.
An artesian well is a water source drilled underground and reaching artesian water layers. Artesian water is always under pressure. This is an important sign. During drilling, it begins to rise above the depth of occurrence. Sometimes it can reach the surface of the earth and gush with a fountain.
Artesian water lies deep underground. There is no single meaning of depth. Between the surface of the earth and artesian aquifers, there are two kind of "filters" - waterproof sandy horizons. Thanks to them, artesian water is protected from the ingress of groundwater and rainwater into it, therefore it contains a minimum amount of impurities.
Artesian water is considered the cleanest and healthiest. It is impossible to say exactly at what depth the artesian water layer is. It depends on the geographic location of the source, on the geology and composition of the earth layers. In any case, above the artesian waters, there are two impermeable layers, which in total are at least 40-50 meters. This figure is usually higher. On average, the depth of an artesian well varies between 200-300 meters, but it can reach 1000 meters. In order to determine whether you have reached artesian water, you need to investigate the composition and structure of the surrounding earth layers, measure the water pressure, etc.
Residents of private and cottage houses often think about arranging an artesian well on their site. First, it is good for your health. the water is as clean as possible. Secondly, artesian springs are practically not depleted, this makes it possible to use water for a long time.
Before drilling a well, you should think about its depth, because this indicator is unpredictable - it varies from 50 to 1000 m, and the cost of drilling each meter is quite high. Therefore, calculate the possible costs in advance.
How to find out how deep the artesian source lies?
- Discuss with the owners of neighboring houses.
- Contact a well drilling specialist in your area.
- Track your region's groundwater map, if available.
- Request information from the territorial department of geological exploration.
Do not forget that according to the Federal Law of the Russian Federation No. 2395, which establishes the rules for the use of the bowels of the earth, an artesian source is a mineral. Therefore, the extraction of artesian water without a permit is prohibited.
