How to outsmart a mole? Council of an experienced summer resident!
Mole! In cartoons, this is usually a cute, friendly creature! Perhaps this is the case in the animal world. But for summer residents and gardeners, the mole is one of the main enemies. It spoils the soil, damages the roots of plants, leaves without fruit. Despite the fact that moles are insectivorous and do not eat vegetables, their “digging functions” harm summer residents. There are several ways to outsmart the mole and drive the “intruder” away from the site. I will share with you a few of them!
1. Specialized electronic scarers. They are of two types - stationary and portable. The devices emit ultrasound that moles cannot tolerate. Do-it-yourself electronic scarers. It is simple and inexpensive.
2. Homemade scarers. Moles cannot stand harsh and loud sounds, so try to build "turntables and rattles" with your own hands. This can be done from a metal peg and a tin can put on it, or a plastic bottle worn on a tube. You can purchase ready-made turntables, weather vane. For every 10 acres it is worth preparing 5-7 such repellents.
3.Flooding burrows with water. You can try the method of pouring water into the mole passages from a hose under pressure. This should be done until water appears on the surface of the earth from other holes. The method is not the most humane. But many moles manage to survive flooding.
4. Use of chemicals. This is the most inhumane way. Chemicals poison animals. Most summer residents try not to resort to it or leave it as a last resort. Substances are toxic and hazardous to humans. Be careful when using them.
5. Traps, traps, mole rats. These tools are becoming more and more popular. They are installed in a hole, bait is placed and masked with soil. It is important to select or fit the correct size of traps, corresponding to the size of the mole passages. Moles are killing moles.
6. Planting herbs, repellent plants. Moles dislike not only harsh sounds, but also harsh smells. That is why it is worth planting repellent plants near the mole passages. Spicy herbs (mint, lavender, lemon balm, daffodils) should be planted around the perimeter of the garden. Don't expect a quick effect. Moles will leave the area gradually.
7. Using fish heads. A popular method for scaring away underground inhabitants. The head of the herring should be wrapped in paper or breathable cloth and placed in the mole passages. After a while, unpleasant odors will appear, which will make the moles leave the site. This process takes about two weeks. You can use not only fish heads, but also any rotten food.
8. «Smoking out». The most common remedy is the FAS sulfuric checkers. They are placed in wormholes, set on fire and covered with a bucket. The use of tear gas effectively affects moles, and they quickly and permanently leave their labyrinths.
