How to sharpen an old grater? So that the grater can easily grate the tomatoes and easily cope with the carrots!
We have already talked about the rules for perfect sharpening of kitchen knives (link at the end of the article). And today I will tell you about how I sharpen a grater. Yes, an ordinary kitchen grater, which also dulls.
Of course, you can always just change the old grater for a new one. But no matter how much we looked for a suitable option, in the end we remained unhappy. In fact, they threw away money in vain, then threw out a new grater and returned to the "good old" grater made in the USSR. In my opinion, graters, bottle openers and much more ended when the USSR was destroyed. Now there is one thin-walled China.
It is important for me that the grater is not thin, dull and has the right size fractions. Then you can grate tomatoes and carrots, and your hands do not get tired. Modern products are completely substandard. After a short period of time, they become unusable.
In general, my wife decided that she could not find a better old grater! Therefore, he periodically asks her to sharpen. Once again, my wife left for work. And I got busy with her kitchen utensils. I sharpened my knives and went over to the grater.
There are many tips for sharpening. But not all of them work. The main reason is the sharpening angle. On a new grater, it is 30 degrees. But with prolonged use, it changes. Therefore, before sharpening, this angle must be restored. At least approximately lead to the original 30 degrees.
This is not difficult to do. For this we need a screwdriver. With it we go through each hole in the grater, making longitudinal movements - up and down. We have restored the corner. Now we turn to the next manipulations - directly to sharpening.
We will sharpen the grater using a round file. If you don't have it, buy it. It costs 50 rubles. They are sold in whole sets and piece.
Next, we make the same movements as with a screwdriver - longitudinal sharpening up and down. It is necessary to sharpen each hole with a file for 10-15 seconds.
After completing all the manipulations, it is necessary to thoroughly rinse the grater with warm water. Then you can enjoy working on a sharp grater!
I have been using this method for a long time. Always a great result!
Maybe you have your own proven methods - how can you restore a grater without buying a new one? Although there are so many new products, maybe it's worth trying?
