Making a magnetic mass for the welding machine

Greetings to all Kulibins and self-made ones. The holidays are almost over and it's time to return to their workshop again to make new homemade products. Mikhalych is with you again and today we will make a magnetic mass for the welding machine from the old speaker.

The photo below shows a very familiar situation for all welders. One of the solutions to the problem is to make a magnetic mass.

For manufacturing we take an old and no longer working speaker. I took from an old speaker from Toshiba tape recorder. In general, it is difficult to imagine a workshop in which an old speaker is not lying covered with a layer of perennial dust, so you will not have any problems with that.

From the speaker itself, we only need a magnet.

If you can unscrew the core with the magnet from the speaker case, then you're in luck. I didn't succeed and I just had to cut off the heads.

Next, from the outside of the speaker, we drill a hole in the core. Take a 10 or 12 bit, depending on which pin you will use.

This is the hole you should end up with. The core is quite dense and difficult to drill, use oil to cool the drill. Just do not cool the drill with water, this magnet does not really like water and loses its magnetic properties.

Next, we need the hairpin itself, diameter 10-12 mm. You can use a bolt after cutting off the cap. The length of the hairpin is preferably at least 10 cm.

Then we insert the hairpin into the hole in the core and sink it a little, literally by 1-2 mm. As shown in the photo.

Next, you need to weld the stud to the core body. Here you can without fanaticism, just a few potholders.

We grind the welding place. Firstly, we are aesthetes and everything should be beautiful, and secondly, this surface should be smooth to fit snugly against the metal.

This is such a thing (as in the photo) you should get in the end.

Then you already understood everything yourself. We clean the mass cable and fix it on our homemade product.

For fastening, you can use the version with a regular washer. We put the washer on the hairpin and clamp the whole thing with a nut.

It is clear that you need to clamp as tightly as possible. Instead of a nut, you can use a wing. You can pre-clamp the cable in the copper terminal and only then put the terminal on the hairpin. Here, think for yourself how convenient you are and what is at hand.

You end up with such a wonderful contraption. The magnetic mass for the welding machine has shown itself to be a very convenient homemade product. There is only one drawback - these are painted surfaces. You must first clean up the area to stick the mass.
