Making a loop from studs and nuts
Greetings homemade. Today we make the simplest loop from a stud and a few nuts. I know that the idea is not new and has been successfully applied for a long time. But all the same, I often meet, by the nature of their activities, such men who have never even heard of the simplest life hacks. In order to eliminate this gap for beginners and refresh the memory of experienced ones, I will make similar posts with all sorts of simple homemade products.
Hinges of this kind are widely used in the private sector on various metal structures. For example, my neighbor has a greenhouse with a metal frame and a compost bin that uses such homemade hinges. Of course, they are not used for doors and gates, since they do not have the required strength.
And so we work. We take a regular hairpin and 4 nuts for it. Select the size of the studs and nuts for your design.
Now we put the whole thing together. It is important here that there is a gap of several millimeters between the nuts, since when they are opened or closed, they will move along the thread.
For clarity, two sections of a profile pipe are taken, on which we install loops.
We put the segments together leaving a distance of 2-4 mm between them, as shown in the photo.
Further, before welding the loop, it must be slightly raised so that the nuts do not touch the pipe surface. To do this, use a metal plate as in the photo. You can put electrodes or even regular matches.
Everything, the hinges can be welded.
What to weld to is shown in the photo. In our case, the inner nuts are welded to one pipe, the outer ones to the other. You can do it the other way around, it doesn't matter.
If such a loop seems rather weak to you, then it can be strengthened by duplicating each nut. That is, use not 4 nuts, but 8 pieces.
This is the simplest and most reliable loop you get in the end.
The disadvantage of the hinge is that it will not work to remove the door from the hinges; you will have to cut off the seams with a grinder. But for that it is reliable, easily lubricated and at a price cheaper than a factory product.
That's all. Thank you all for your attention and for the like. With you, as always, Mikhalych, peace and goodness to my readers and subscribers.
