We make a cutting machine for metal from a grinder and a bicycle frame

Hello everyone, gentlemen, homemade products. Today I am bringing to your fair trial another homemade product from folk art. We will make a home cutting machine for metal using a grinder and an old frame from a children's bicycle. Well, as always, we evaluate the idea, share our opinion.

From the old frame, we only need a small part of it together with the fork, as shown in the photo.

We remove the fork and steering wheel for convenience. We will only use the sleeve itself and a 15 cm piece of the frame.

We cut off the excess. Here, of course, there is no need to strictly observe the indicated dimensions, since everything is individual.

Further, we use a metal sheet as a working bed for the machine, preferably not thinner than 3 mm. In order for the sheet not to "play", you can make a wooden base under it. We weld a piece of the frame to the sheet, as shown in the photo.

Now we are preparing the fork. We measure from the base of the fork about 13-15 cm and cut off the excess.

Now we weld such a metal plate to the plug as in the photo. We make a hole in the plate through which we will fix the grinder. The grinder is fixed with a bolt through a hole in the body, which is intended for the handle.

Now we insert the fork with the welded plate back into the bushing of the bicycle frame, which in the photo is already painted black. Well, this is probably for aesthetics)))

We fix the fork with a standard clip, which was originally on the handlebar. Do not forget to put washers and do not tighten the clamp in the butt, the handlebars should be able to rotate as intended.

For the convenience of using the machine, it will not be superfluous to adapt just such a spring, which will return the fork to its original position.

This is how the design should ideally work. The spring must be strong enough to return the grinder to its original position.

Now we fix the grinder on the fork, laying it on the plate and securing it with a bolt through the hole indicated in the photo.

Using a corner, make sure that the grinder is installed correctly and that the cutting disc is installed strictly perpendicular to the working surface of the table.

Now we make a working cut in a metal sheet. Turn on the grinder and press on it. In fact, the machine is ready and you can safely use it.

For greater convenience and expanding functionality, the author of the idea provided for the installation of a guide angle, which allows you to fix the consumable at the desired angle.

The white arrow indicates a hole for a stationary fastening, a red arrow indicates a hole for temporary fixation of the cutting angle.

This is how it works in reality. We press the consumable to the set corner and safely cut it off.

If you need to change the angle of the cut, then take out the adjusting bolt and move the corner as we please. A series of holes can be made in advance in the bed to fix the angle at the desired angle.
