How to protect a washing machine

The washing machine is a real helper in everyday life. To prolong its life, regular maintenance is necessary. What dangers lie in wait for us with the careless use of this miracle unit? What should you pay attention to?

We offer some useful and simple tips to help you avoid problems and unpleasant surprises.

1. Cleaning the drain pump filter. At any washing machine there is a drain pump filter, it is necessary to filter all kinds of contaminants. Over time, the filter can become clogged, which threatens the failure of the pump itself. Replacing it is a rather expensive procedure. The second danger is the risk of flooding the neighbors, since if the filter is clogged, water may leak from the machine. Traditionally, the filter is located under a small panel at the bottom of the machine. After removing the panel, unscrew the filter cover by placing a flat pan under the drain hole or using a rag. We take out the filter and clean it. A lot of dirt can accumulate on the surface, consisting of threads, wool, mold or small parts (buttons, coins, etc.). It is advisable to repeat the procedure every 1-2 months.

2. Cleaning of dirt and mildew from the cuff. This rubber piece mounted on the hatch washing machine, which ensures the sealing of the loading tank during washing. After each wash, the cuff should be cleaned to remove moisture and dirt. This will prevent the development of mold. Also, during washing, various piercing objects (for example, paper clips) can get into it, which during subsequent washings can damage the rubber seal. Leave the door ajar after each wash.

3.Powder dispenser cleaning.Gradually, plaque forms on the surface of this part, which is a favorable environment for the development of mold and mildew. To clean the dispenser, carefully remove it from the compartment. Next, place the tray in a bowl of water, to which any detergent against mold and mildew has been added, preferably chlorine ("Dressing Duck", "Domestos", "Silit" etc.) After a few minutes, use a toothbrush and a sponge to gently clean the surface of the dispenser. Folk remedies can also be used as a detergent, such as:

  • Lemon acid
  • Vinegar
  • Soda

Then we clean the hole for the dispenser with a brush and detergent. It is advisable to repeat this cleaning 1-2 times a month.

4. Descaling. A heat electric heater or heating element is a rather expensive part in a washing machine. Over time, scale, consisting of salts, forms on it. The heating element, covered with a crust of scale, conducts heat worse, as a result, the water heats up longer, while the amount of electricity increases. Over time, the heating element may fail.

We offer the safest and most effective way to combat scale in washing machine. We put 200 g of citric acid into the dispenser and carry out one wash cycle without clothes lasting 1-1.5 hours at T 80-90 C. Since citric acid is quite aggressive, this method should be used no more than once a year. This is enough to protect the part from limescale formation.
