How to sharpen a meat grinder knife. I remove the rust to the mirror
The old blunted meat grinder managed to rust in a couple of years of "rest", so when it was necessary to sharpen it, had to start with remove rust in a proven way. I decided in advance how to sharpen the meat grinder knife, but I did it only at the end. It was not possible to remove the rust on the knife by wiping, so I prepared a special "pickle".

First, I removed plaque from the oxide film with a simple rag. So there is much less dirt when sharpening and your hands are cleaner. For grinding the holes in the mesh I used a strip of sandpaper twisted into a tube by hole diameter. If you wind the sandpaper on a nail like a handle, it will come out even more convenient and faster, but I was in no hurry, so I was content with a tube.
For sharpening, I used sheets of sandpaper of various grain sizes, which I attached with electrical tape to an even piece of thick plywood. First processed mesh and knife sandpaper with grain 400, and then brought the 1200th.Spent 15-20 minutes on manual grinding. On both sides of the grate, there was a working out from many years of rotational friction of the knife, therefore, an elevated rim turned out along the outer diameter and it was grinded for a rather long time. Here and larger sandpaper would not hurt.
During grinding, the parts were slightly moistened in water, which was rubbed on sandpaper sheets along the way. On the knife, I normally sharpened only the cutting edges, and did not touch the rest of the surface. It remains to wipe it thoroughly and rinse. The mesh, as you can see, already shines, but this, of course, will not last long. But now the fit of the knife to the plane of the lattice, which also serves as a kind of knife, is just perfect.
It remains to completely clean and wash the meat grinder itself and its sharpened parts, put everything back and forth, behind the cutlets! For lubrication, you can first drive a piece of old bacon or sinewy meat scraps through a meat grinder. This is the story of the day.
