DIY kitchen sponges. Easy!

Obviously, everyone can make a kitchen sponge on their own, the only question is whether there is a suitable piece of foam rubber. I had some trimming after chair upholstery, which were used. The idea to cut a sponge from furniture foam was not spontaneous. Before more than two weeks checked in the kitchenhow such a material behaves when used as a sponge. Based on the results of the experiment, I decided to cut several pieces for the kitchen and bathroom.

REFERENCE! After studying the issue, I concluded that foam rubber for sponges and furniture are made of the same material - polyurethane foam. If into it add dye, the material turns out to be colored, as in the case of sponges. The physical characteristics of foam rubber depend on air cell size.

After a two-week test, I figured out how it changed condition of a new sponge and a cut off piece of white foam rubber the same thickness - 30 mm. The white piece, I must say, turned a little yellow. When I put glasses on them as a load, the sponge crumpled much more, and the white piece almost did not shrink. I would say that its elasticity remains the same. In general, the sponge has become loose.

To cut the sponges, I used a construction knife with a new replaceable blade, a ruler and a rigid backing. You can also cut with scissors, but the edges are not as smooth as when cutting with a knife.

Sponges withstraight sides in the form of rectangles, rhombuses, polygons cut to fit the ruler and to the desired size. For a variety of shapes, I cut out a pair round jaws under the cover of a large salt shaker. I also wanted to make it in the shape of a heart, but there was no ready-made template, and it was just too lazy to make it.

With a knife around the circumference, it is better to try to make a through cut, then the edges will definitely be smooth and beautiful (see. video below).

Since several sponges can be used at the same time, I thought that sponges of different shapes can be used for each individual task: rectangular - to wipe off dust, round - to wash the bathroom and washbasin, rectangular - to use in kitchen, etc. Under this condition, you will never confuse them for their purpose, which in terms of sanitation important.

It is also convenient to wipe dust off shoes with a homemade sponge and apply shoe cream.

The task, as you can see, with the establishment of home production of sponges is not difficult and it is better than just waiting for the remains of foam rubber in the sofa or cabinet to lose their properties and they just have to be thrown away. And so, they will still serve a good cause.
