How to seal the gap between the bathroom, wall and pipes so that water does not leak
When renovating a bathroom, difficulties often arise. When installing a bath, questions often arise.
How to close the gap, the large gap between the wall, so that water does not enter and flood the neighbors below? Complicates the work of pipes that bulge and create an even larger gap.
It is most correct to hide (brick up) the pipes in the walls of the bathroom. We did so during the renovation.
We drilled channels in the walls and installed polypropylene pipes. Then they plastered and glued the tiles.
See the whole repair of a bath and toilet in Khrushchev (our experience). But what if the repairs are done, but they didn't bother to hide the pipes? Or the owners deliberately did not dare to go for it because they were afraid. Some people think that in case of an accident it will be necessary to hammer the walls and then they will have to redo all the repairs.
Frame
There are several options to hide unsightly pipes. For example, install a box.
A frame is made of a galvanized profile, sewn up with plasterboard, trimmed with tiles or plastic. For some, it is difficult and time-consuming. Therefore, this method is not often used.
Someone does not bother and cuts holes right in the bathroom under the pipes so that there is no huge space between the wall.
Small cracks are treated with a sealant. But this method is not recommended.
Foam
The gap with the pipes can be covered with polyurethane foam. No need to make a box from a profile. Wait until the foam dries and then finish. You can sheathe with plastic panels, glue the corners to the sealant. From above, you can cut the tiles and stick on the foam.
It will turn out like a small shelf for a soap dish or shampoo.
Window sill
A good option is to buy a plastic window sill to close the space between the wall and the bathroom. Window sill width 100 - 500 mm. Thickness 20 mm. For work, you need a window sill with one cap.
When extending the side of the bathtub where the mixer is located, cut out the holes for the pipes. The end strip is glued to the wall with sealant on the side. The joint is sealed with PVC skirting board. The place between the bathroom and the plastic window sill is closed with a T-shaped profile.
