The layer of glue for porcelain stoneware and tiles can be different. However, it all depends on the adhesive composition. Different compositions have their own shrinkage. For example, floor tile adhesive can be tougher than the same brand adhesive for drywall tiles. Therefore, a thin layer of glue is applied to the walls.

Some people think that a thicker layer of glue can be applied to the floor without harm.

But if you overdo it, then the material will disperse or crack. If you apply a little, then it's also not good - the tiles will begin to move away from the surface in places.

Previously (during the Soviet era) sand and cement were bred, because there was no tile glue. The composition was durable, did not shrink and served for a long time. Now everyone uses modern formulations, which are more "capricious" in their work.

Brick walls absorb the glue like a sponge and therefore overcoat. If the surface is smooth, then the glue won't just stick. It makes no sense to apply the composition more or less. In this case, notches are made on the surface and treated with concrete contact for better adhesion.

If you apply a thick layer of glue, then when dry, the composition will be covered with a crust, and the middle will remain moist for a certain time. If you start walking on such a floor, then the tiles will come off the base or push through. If the tiles were moistened with water, no crust would appear, and the glue would adhere well to the tile.

home thick layer trouble glue - shrinkage. Uneven drying will cause the tiles to peel off. When the drops are above 3 cm, it is not recommended to level the base with glue.

Experts recommend this adhesive layer thickness for all plates. For small wall tiles, the thickness of the adhesive is no more than 10 mm. If laying tiles on the floor, then - 15 mm. If ceramic granite is being installed, the thickness of the glue can be higher - from 20-25 mm.

When glue thickness still needs to be done more, use this method. Apply the adhesive to the tiles and to the floor using a comb. Only make the grooves perpendicular.
