How to use the space under the house if it rests on a columnar foundation
In places where flooding sometimes occurs or the soil is mobile, columnar bases are often built near private houses. What is such a columnar foundation?
It is performed on piles that raise the grillage above ground level. It turns out that significant free space remains under the house. As an option for construction on a slope, a foundation on pillars is an excellent way out: you do not need to dig a large hole under a part of the house or pour additional soil and tamp it.
When the house is erected, it can be seen that a huge free space, sheltered from precipitation, disappears under it, and therefore it is suitable for storing, for example, firewood, some building materials or other useful in the household of things.
But these things must be protected from the same precipitation and extraneous encroachment.
Building a pick-up
If you try to enclose the foundation on piles from the outside, its outer wall will be called a pick-up. The simplest type of base may not have a common reinforcement connection with the foundation, but at the same time be capital. If you create a pick-up from boards, then it will be something like a fence. Protects against snow, slanting rain, wind and dust.
If you enclose the columnar foundation with a wall of brick or rubble stone, then the basement will look capital.
However, a completely blank wall cannot be built, since the space under the house must be ventilated.
You will have to make windows or insert pipe sections during the construction phase to make ventilation out of them. You can close them with special grates so that garbage from the street does not get there, as well as uninvited animals - mice and rats - do not get in the way.
With a stone or brick filling, the foundation on the piles will turn into a basement, where you can safely arrange pantries for both products and tools and building materials.
If the plinth is located under the garage building, then it is convenient to store tools for car repairs, seasonal tires and spare parts there.
Depending on the height of the foundation, you should think about doors in the zabirka or hatches through which you can lay and get firewood, equipment or food. The maximum width of such an opening should be slightly less than the distance between the piles, since the supporting elements of the foundation cannot be demolished.
