Plasterboard installation: little secrets, common mistakes

A versatile material that is indispensable for finishing work. At first glance, everything seems simple. I screwed the sheets onto the frame and that's it.

But there are mistakes that can negate the entire repair. Incorrect installation leads to cracks, deformation and other problems.

In most cases, errors are due to the wrong stem. In other words, because of its structure.

An important point: leave a gap from the ceiling and floor (up to 5 mm.). This will help the sheets to change freely and there will be no cracks at the joints.

Too large spacing of the profile strips on the walls. Ideally, it should be no more than 60 cm.

If on the ceiling, then no more than 40 cm. Some craftsmen make the pitch of the ceiling and walls the same.

To fasten hangers for eyelets - also a mistake that will lead to deformation.

You can use such a mount only on the walls, but not always. Such a ceiling mount is not recommended. The thickness of the suspension must be at least 0.62 mm.

Installation is not advised drywall glue. The glue layer can be broken due to moisture, dampness. If you do this, then only on a degreased, flat surface, dust-free and pre-primed.

Use a dry mix like Perlfix. Apply glue with “bloopers” so that it is not less than 8 per 1 sq. M. The adhesive is applied to walls or drywall. Do not press hard against the wall at once. Check the levelness first. But everything must be done quickly, since the perfix begins to set in 10 minutes.

To ensure sufficient strength of attachment to the wall, you can additionally drill holes in the place of the glue after a day and fix it with hammer nails. Now you can be sure that even if the glue leaves the drywall, the material will still firmly adhere to the wall.

A common mistake is seams without reinforcement. Use a mesh, serpyanka for reinforcing joints. The seam is primed, the putty mass is pressed in to fill the joint. Then the reinforcing tape is glued, pressed into the not hardened putty.

Stacking sheets horizontally considered less durable. It is better to install the gypsum board vertically.

One more tip. If you make one layer of gypsum board for partitions, then this coating will be very vulnerable to various types of mechanical stress. You will rearrange the furniture and you can punch through the drywall. Therefore, 2 layers are recommended, as shown in the picture below:
