How did we protect our fence from theft?
When we build a solid fence around our territory, we hope that it will be able to protect us from the encroachment of unwanted visitors. The fence serves as a protective function, but often it itself can suffer from thieves.
What to do so that no one can enter your site and protect the fence from the encroachments of people who are not clean on the hand?
Once, while visiting my relatives in the village, I saw that a new fence made of metal corrugated board around the cemetery was smeared with white paint. I asked the locals who dared to draw a thick white line along the entire fence.
It turned out to be very commonplace. The new fence attracted dishonest people who stole several flights overnight. Then the local authorities decided that it would be better if the fence did not look very aesthetically pleasing, but it would be safe and sound. The fence marked with paint is not of interest to thieves and therefore it is still in the place allotted to it.
If the thieves did not disdain to fence from the cemetery, then what can we say about the property of ordinary residents of private houses. Owners of summer cottages or unoccupied houses under construction are especially affected by theft. In winter, it gets dark early, which is very beneficial for thieves: they freely enter private territory and steal fences.
First of all, metal corrugated board attracts thieves. With the help of a screwdriver, it is very easy to unscrew the metal sheets and take them out. For a few healthy men, this will not be difficult. They will be able to dismantle all the sheets of corrugated board in a couple of hours, and then resell them cheaply in another city or village.
There are many ways to secure your property. And it is not necessary to smear them with paint, while negatively affecting the appearance of the fence.
My relatives, whose dacha is far from the city, have managed to keep their fence from thieves for many years. They shared their experiences with me.
Here are some helpful tips to help owners of private backyards avoid losing their fence:
- the use of furniture bolts with round heads, which cannot be unscrewed from the outside. This makes it much more difficult for thieves, who will need to enter private property rather than act from the side of the road. Bolts may be more expensive, but the results will pay off when your fence remains intact.
- the use of welding to strengthen the bolts that secure the corrugated board. You can also fill the thread with paint on the reverse side, which, after drying, complicate the unscrewing process.
- adjacent sheets can be fastened together with rivets, which also complicates the dismantling of the fence.
Let all these manipulations require additional efforts and costs, but the fence will remain in its place. It is better to follow the above tips than to be left without a fence and be forced to reinstall it.
