Simple and beautiful: landscaping for the lazy

click fraud protection

To eat deliciously, you can go to a restaurant, or you can cook at home no less tasty without any frills. That's landscape design, the simpler the better

The plots, whipped up by the owners themselves, can look quite appetizing - if you approach the matter with heart.

So, if you do not like to spend time digging in the ground, and you consider contacting a landscape design bureau an unaffordable luxury, the best way out for you is to create a “garden without problems” on the site.

To do this, you just have to strain a little once and plant everything in such a way that it grows from year to year almost without your participation. Imagine - you come to the site after a long absence, and you are met there... no, not overgrown nettles and quinoa, and friendly lawns with flower beds, bushes strewn with berries and ripening fruits on trees? A fairy tale, and more!

Green base

In order for everything to be as we have conceived, you must first properly "program" your site, lay the foundations for the future of sybarism. So, let's imagine that we have a kind of tabula rasa - an untouched springboard of land, ready for cultivation. The first thing you want to do (just to be sure) is to hire an excavator and demolish all the sod along with the nasty wheatgrass, which, as you know, propagates by roots underground and tends to suppress all cultural plants. Many do just that: they dig up a plot, level it, and then sow it with low perennial grasses (such as bent grass, bluegrass, fescue, and rower),

However, not all gardeners consider such a measure mandatory: some, on the contrary, are convinced that it is by no means possible to level and dig the soil under the lawn on purpose. Instead, they propose to leave the meadow as it is - with grass, clover and dandelions, and then only "patch holes" in the wild lawn with the help of yarrow, bryozoan, Veronica, mosses, etc. They assure that if you regularly mow such a "meadow" at least for the first time, the plants themselves will gradually become much lower, since they have some genetic memory. Well, within the framework of the project "for lazy people" such an idea looks very tempting, especially since wheatgrass harms primarily garden plants - and we are above all "killing" in the beds.

By the way, about the garden: it is not at all necessary to disappear on it for hours (and it is not even necessary to start it at all) in order to always have fresh herbs on the table.

Simple garden plantings can be unobtrusively "woven" into a flower garden, which we, of course, will include in our project, but more on that later.

Draw and plant

Not for the sake of solidity and not in order to resemble the real-life landscape designers, but only for the good of the case, you and I should start our design by drawing a project on paper. First, you need to draw the most accurate site plan (do not be too lazy to run over it with a tape measure), and then sketch out the basic "functional zoning": determine where vital areas will be located - a vegetable garden, a utility block, a recreation area, a car playground, a playground or sports ground, an alpine slide, a reservoir and etc. After that, you must draw the paths connecting all the zones, sketch out flower beds, lanterns, "plant" trees, hedges and shrubs.

Considering that our principle is "saving labor resources", the project should be solved in the spirit of minimalism. First of all, for the simplicity of the composition, you should surround the area around the perimeter with beautiful, unpretentious and fast-growing shrubs, which are, for example, jasmine, barberry, viburnum, hawthorn, wild rose and etc. (this will immediately create the illusion of being well-groomed at a minimum cost). Berry bushes can also be planted in some places - for example, currants and gooseberries.

To create a shady corner - and at the same time for gastronomic purposes - you can have 3-4 fruit trees on the farm, say, a couple of apple trees with different ripening periods, plums and cherries. A strong cover grass or ground flowers should be planted as a basis for circles around fruit-bearing trees and bushes. It is allowed to trample such a circle, but when mowing, you can safely bypass it.

So that in the future you do not have to treat the trunks from pests, experts advise immediately planting them also plants that repel insects, for example, calendula (this is also the name of our familiar marigolds) or garlic. Marigolds are convenient because, although they are not perennials, they are sown themselves every year. If you are too lazy to even pluck a crop from a branch (it also happens), you can get by with just trees. Conifers (Christmas trees, cypresses or junipers) will be very good, and also surprisingly decorative, even with some resort shade, ordinary sea buckthorn looks on the site. In addition, they provide very effective shade, which will allow you to further position the resting area under the trees.

Flowers: walk by themselves

With the right colors, you can easily create the illusion that you are giving your site all your free time - or that you have a designer friend. The main thing is to learn how to carefully read the information on the seed packages. Your main helpers in creating flower beds are perennials.

When choosing flowers for a flower bed, you should be concerned about three circumstances: first, how much light they need, secondly, when and how much they bloom, and thirdly, what is their maximum growth reach. Depending on this, you must choose the plants so that they are comfortable, so that they do not overshadow each other and (which is very important) so that the flowerbed never looks completely "bald" (that is, so that at least something always blooms on it, some basic composition).

To prevent the meadow from "eating" your flower garden from the edges, it is better to immediately overlay it along the edges with a wide strip of tiles or stones (the same can be done in all places where it is inconvenient to mow). Non-flowering plants with beautiful green mass (in addition to decorative herbs, it can be the aforementioned greens for the table), as well as "transparent" shrubs, like almonds. Plants in large pots, tubs, beautiful boxes and on vertical stands look very "advanced" in a flowerbed. They are easier to look after, and they feel no worse.

Considering that dill, parsley, basil are annual plants, and you will have to sow them every year anyway, you can either arrange for them beautiful, decorated like flowerbeds, "curtains" in the meadow, or put flowerpots closer to the house and grow grass for tables in them.

Finally, a few more tips: if after building a house you have construction waste (stones, sand, gravel, shavings and sawdust, chips, etc.) - this is a good reason to create an alpine slides. Garbage just needs to be buried in the ground as drainage - "lining" under the boulders and stones - and sowed everything from above with saxifrage (just choose a dry and sunny place). Well, if you have nothing at all on your plot except a wild meadow, decorate it with an unpretentious "vertical garden": plant wild grapes along the fence, and wind the walls of the house with ivy or hops.
