In February 2017, the son and daughter-in-law received the keys to the apartment. T. Since several months passed from the registration of the mortgage to the commissioning of the house, they had time to think about the interior. My children are creative, so there was no doubt that it would be a "loft". If they had no doubts about the interior, then I also had no doubts that I would make the interior elements.

Waste to business: making countertops

After making the dining table, I still have pieces of barn board. It is from them that I decided to make a coffee table in addition to the large one. I didn't have to invent a lot, the concept had already been approved by the customers. And they turned out to be the same for me - my son Cyril and his wife Natasha, our daughter-in-law.

That turned out to be much simpler. The workpieces for the countertop were already dry and processed. It only remained to collect. This time I did not use metal in the countertop, but pulled off individual lamellas with wooden dowels with glue.

I made grooves in the lamellas with a milling cutter then I fitted wooden dowels under these grooves so that they fit into the grooves with a gap for the glue. And before gluing, he pulled everything together with stable metal beams.

I have preserved all natural beauty.

Don't look at the color of the lamellas, we did the painting. But we settled on a natural color. As soon as the tabletop was made, the son and daughter-in-law arrived and decided to experiment. The surface was completely brushed with a nylon brush in a drill. And all the recesses were filled with "epoxy".

Table frame

The frame for the countertop was welded from a rectangular profile pipe 20x40 mm. So that the table does not wobble, and so that it can be put on the surface at any time, I welded 4 nuts into the base, into which I screwed 4 screw legs. Then he treated the entire metal surface with rust remover.

I welded the frame. This will be the underframe. I welded nuts into the bottom of the frame, into which the screw legs will be screwed.

It took a long time to select the material for the shelf under the table. Plywood and chipboard were rejected immediately, not in style. So I just made the grid to fit. And then I painted the metal frame and the grille with metal paint 3 in 1.

I made a wood grate as a shelf under the table.

Estimate

The estimate for the table came out quite ridiculous, he took it all in the same place, in Leroy's hyper. This is how much I paid for everything:

  • Metal profile (20x40 mm, 7.6 m) - 227 rubles \ 3 m = 681 rubles
  • Oil for countertops (0.5 l) - 600 ₽
  • Metal paint 3 in 1 (0.9 l) - 141₽
  • Joiner's glue - 85 ₽
  • Rust neutralizer - 48 ₽
  • Metal legs (4 pieces) - 123 ₽

Total: I got 1678 rubles.
