How to choose safe tangerines

Already, closer to the new year, prices are inflated in stores. But while you can still find somewhere at an affordable price, we stock up on tangerines for the New Year's table. What could be a new year without tangerines? Especially in children.

But due to the popularity of exotic fruits, even those whose product quality leaves much to be desired are trying to export to us. It would seem that something that does not look very pleasant should cost less, but in the pre-holiday bustle for in the absence of the best nearby, they sometimes snapped up such, without thinking that sometimes these fruits can be dangerous.

The first thing I want to draw the attention of readers to are tangerines. with greenish skin. Now supermarkets do not write the country of origin. I'd like to ask the legislators about this so that we can know the truth. For example, greenish tangerines can be safe and even very fragrant if they were brought from Abkhazia and simply did not have time to ripen. But from some other countries, fruits from a diseased tree may be unripe. But this can be extremely harmful.

On the shelves you can often see tangerines with this super smooth even shiny skin. So it seems that such beautiful, definitely useful, healthy fruits. But shine and smoothness are often signs of processing the fruit with various liquids, even chemistry.. But we often do not throw away the peel, we cook compotes from them and prepare other various drinks.

Sometimes it's not easy the peel is shiny, it happens that it even sticks to your hands when you take the fruit in your palm, an invisible layer of chemistry. Often tangerines are treated with gas - Ethylene. Such processing is extremely harmful to health.

If you think about why tangerines are processed, then there are very good reasons. On the peel of tangerines, and not only tangerines, quite calmly enduring transportation, the larvae of Mediterranean flies can remain alive and unharmed.

You can distinguish the possible presence of pests in the peel in appearance. In places of punctures, where larvae are deposited, they turn into black dots. Choose tangerines carefully because the skin is clear of blackheads.

Remember the time when were palm trees cut down in Sochi? So, these pests came to our country with fruits from other countries. Therefore, do not neglect the rules of hygiene - always wash any citrus fruits thoroughly. And how I wash (I was advised by a woman who worked for many years at the sanitary and epidemiological station in the past), I will tell you more.

But first, I will give one more type of mandarin, which I do not recommend buying at all. These are the fruits that have a peel that feels like it has separated from the pulp. We press on the peel, and the dent remains and the fruit is not round, as if it is all rumpled. This is a sign of freeze-thaw and improper storage. If it was frozen for a short time, only the peel is half the trouble. But this is almost impossible to understand. But if it came to the pulp and then thawed, then the fruit turns into a habitat for all kinds of pests. Such tangerine quickly deteriorates, cannot be stored for a long time, as a healthy living product. And since it rots quickly, it means that you can no longer talk about safety.

How do I wash my tangerines? First, I keep them in a warm solution of baking soda and laundry soap. After 15 minutes, I rinse each separately under running water, and rinse thoroughly from all sides. As an option, someone even suggested holding and rinsing in vinegar water. When peeling the peel from the pulp, you should always carefully examine each slice for traces of pests. And if you like peel drinks, then I advise you to boil longer.
