Traveling by car, we almost crashed due to scammers
The first time we faced a similar situation back in the summer, when we drove south on our own. But then we did not think that this could be a common occurrence for some car services, or rather for these lousy entrepreneurs who put other people's lives at risk, including small children.
Before the new year, the cases repeated themselves and I decided to describe them in order to warn others.
Leaving on a trip in our car, we studied the situation on the road, hotels, where it would be possible to spend the night at a lower cost and start on the road again. It seemed that the new car could not fail, and we could not think that one morning, having driven onto the track, our brakes would fail.
Yes, it is possible that experienced drivers driving around cities know these subtleties perfectly. But inexperienced travelers like us will be interested in our sad experience.
The fact is that for reasons of economy, we stayed overnight in inexpensive hotels, motels and others. To the south (where we were going) the road takes 2 days. Naturally, on the way, we stopped in cities and walked around them a little, so it took 4 days to get there.
After the first night we left the hotel early in the morning. The road was free, we wanted to drive through the city to the highway without traffic jams. Since there were almost no other cars, we left the parking lot quietly, without stopping, and only on the main road did our driver realize that the brakes did not work.
Can you imagine his state of shock? He is not such an experienced driver, but it's good that the car was taken not by an automatic machine, but by a mechanic. I was able to slow down with the handbrake. And just then a man in a 10-ke arrives and asks if everything is fine with us and if we need help.
Our driver accepted the offer of help, and were towed to the service. And there it turned out that the brake hose was neatly cut off. Not torn or something like that, but exactly cut with a knife.
When I heard that by some miracle we were in this situation and didn't crash into something, I had only one question - for what?!
Car service workers, naturally, with a nasty smile on their lips, assured them that they were hooligans. Allegedly you will not understand them ...
But the same story repeated itself in the next parking lots. It's good that our driver checked the brakes before leaving. In general, for three nights in a row, we left a lot of money in car services.
And when we got to the place of rest, the owner of the house that we rented told us that the car service workers thus simply provide themselves with earnings. (To call them scammers, in my opinion, is too kind!) After all, you can't go far without brakes, and there is only one car service nearby.
In general, we were advised to choose hotels near which there are no car services. If nearby, especially if nearby in a hotel, then the brake hoses will be cut off at night. This is not only a loss of money, but also time to replace. Sleeping in the car is not an option either.
Have you ever had this happen? Or maybe some of you have encountered a different type of scam? Tell us about your experience in the comments, please. If you can give advice, give it. It will help me a lot and many not experienced. Thank you for your responsiveness.
