Why in Cuba there are no glass windows in houses
Hot, bright, sunny Cuba. We do not know very well the way of life of such distant countries. Although, it seems, the Island of Freedom is perhaps closer to us than many other island states in the Atlantic.
For me personally, it was a discovery that in a modern country, there are practically no glass in houses. It cannot be argued that they do not exist at all. In some places in modern buildings, office centers, hotels, of course, there are the usual glazed frames, but such across the country will be at most 20%. And this is not a rule, but rather an exception to the rule.
There are several reasons for this, unfamiliar to us, openness:
1. Climate. Cuba is a country with an average annual temperature of 25 degrees. In the most severe winter month (there it is February) the thermometer does not drop below 22 degrees. And in hot August it is 33rd. Therefore, there is simply no need to tightly seal the premises. A much better service will be provided by wooden or metal blinds. They do not impede the movement of air and create at least some kind of barrier to the scorching rays of the sun.
2. Low crime rate. Cubans are a very open and friendly people. And there, in fact, the doors are practically not locked. In some places in administrative buildings you can find bars or shutters on the windows, but often even local banks do without them.
3. High level of poverty of the local population. It's amazing how this fits in with the low crime rate. According to the logic of things, it is poverty that pushes a person to unseemly actions, for example, to take someone else's, moreover, quite accessible. But this is not about Cuba. They simply do not spend extra money on things without which it is quite possible to do. And the glass on the window is definitely on this list.
