Where and how the population of Thailand lives on the island of Koh Chang
One fine June day, we flew to the rich country of Thailand. It seemed so to us. Getting to the island of Koh Chang, we admired luxury hotels and magnificent landscapes. The island also exceeded all our expectations! Immersed in greenery, there are chic hotels! The first days we were in euphoria, but after a while we began to notice not only the beauty of the places, but also the other side of the island.
As we went on an excursion, the road passed through the streets, where there were rare shops and strange decrepit buildings. And how do you think it turned out?
But it turned out that working in the richest hotels, Thais live, as they say, "where God will send." They have very low wages and few people can afford to build a house or buy an apartment. For many, houses are made from planks. Such as are seen in the distance in the previous photo.
Many people live where they work, as a rule, this concerns the sellers from street stalls.
From early morning until late at night, there is trade. Passing these shops, you see how women feed their children, put them to sleep on bales of clothes... among such Thais who speak Russian, I asked the question: “Why are children always with them and for 10 days the staff did not is changing. " The answer, of course, amazed me: “We live and work in one place. We trade until late at night, and when the tourists finish having fun, we spread the trestle bed on the floor and sleep. If we do not work every day, then there is simply not enough money even for food! "
Isn't it sad? After all, Thais are such a smiling and friendly people, and with such a huge influx of tourists they do not have enough income.
This is a fishing village.
Sorting through the caught delicacies... And yes... These buildings also serve as homes for fishermen and their families. Of course, the houses look more presentable, and the income of these people is already higher. But I don’t think it’s a great pleasure to live where you work.
And the last place that we met on the way was an elephant farm.
Thais in higher positions live in a house like this, made of simple planks. Everything would be fine, but in the rainy season, how floods their houses !!!
Thais, who are "junior staff", have no housing at all.
During the day, when tourists visit the elephant farm, they keep order, but at night they sleep directly under this shed, spreading their bed on the boards.
The question is: why, having such opportunities, Thailand has such a low standard of living? I think this is not explainable ...
