For two years in a row I have been planting onions in five-liter bottles: it grows well and does not collapse. Yes, and before disembarking on the bed, it takes up little space. I cut off the neck of the bottle and pour 10 cm. land. I sprinkled the seeds in bulk and sprinkled them with earth. I plant one variety in each bottle. And when I plant it, I choose the thickest shoots, and a lot goes to the discard.
However, this method has a drawback.

It is necessary to scratch out the 5-l supports or take out with a spoon, several pieces are taken at once.
In addition, bulky containers take up a lot of space. One of our craftsmen solved all the problems at once and grows onion and other seedlings in "snails".

I plant seedlings in "snails", they take up little space. First, on the paper, as it hatched, I sprinkle the earth. No one argues that seedlings grow well in cups, but for us, "lazy gardeners", we want something simpler.
For the snail, I use a 2 mm thick laminate backing. The most comfortable. The height of the snail in peppers is 12-13 cm, in onions 10 cm, I twist it tight so that the earth does not spill out. It is better to take cheap gray toilet paper.

Already planted leeks, sweet and bitter peppers, eggplants, and 5-6 pcs of early tomatoes. And some other flowers. Last year they planted it in snails for the first time, I liked it. And onions, without snails, are generally unrealistic to grow. At least I have never succeeded. And in a snail, you grow it until it becomes half a pencil thick and into the ground. In autumn, the same as from the set, (not much less), and no diseases on it. The leek turned out (for the first time) almost like a store one.
Snail Qwert12031958 puts it in a bag and first ties it on top, and after the sprouts appear, opens it. Then it remains only to water as needed.
Further, weak plants are discarded, and the remaining ones move apart a little, if necessary, a little earth is poured. From snails into separate cups Qwert12031958 does not dive, as the seedlings grow, unfolds and sprinkles the ground. Before disembarkation, the snails were up to 40 cm in size.
Other members of the forum also tried snail seedlings.

I worked out such an algorithm for myself. The snails contain small seeds that need to be planted a lot. Onions, herbs, salads, small flowers, beets. It's a pity that carrots don't grow like that And I don't see any point in planting large seeds, which need relatively little (well, less than 20 pieces, for example) in a snail.
Planting in snails or using more familiar cups / tablets / containers is a master's business. But that the working method is proved by our craftsmen.
