I recommend everyone not to plant petunias this year, but to try something different
Do you choose petunia to decorate your garden, veranda or balcony from year to year? A good choice - the abundant cascades of colorful gramophones will leave few people indifferent.
But I believe that petunias have enough disadvantages, and other beautiful annuals are a dime a dozen. What's wrong with petunia?
I'll start from the very beginning. There are two ways to get petunia seedlings:
-
Long self-agony with seedlings. Petunia is definitely not the kind of flower that you can say “planted and forgot”. The work with seeds begins in March.
Young seedlings are very capricious and demanding of light: without additional lighting with lamps, their growth is very slow. Meanwhile, there are many bright annual flowers that willingly grow on seedlings (salvia) or will be happy to sow directly into open ground. - Buying seedlings. Here, too, not everything is smooth: seedlings from the greenhouse experience stress when they find themselves in new natural conditions. At the same time, many sellers also lie about the peculiarities of the variety. And I would not say that landscaping the veranda of a petunia when buying ready-made seedlings is cheap.
After all, petunia is definitely a beautiful plant. But it has become too commonplace and pop. Its relative, calibrachoa, although it has a smaller flower size, is relatively unpretentious and looks fresher.
For flower growers who do not want to devote time to daily watering, I recommend a decorative purslane carpet. And how good, for example, nemesia is - here you don't even need to grow seedlings.
Petunia will never bloom profusely in a small pot. If you plant 3-4 cuttings in one box with a volume of 10 liters, then after the peak of flowering the plant will quickly grow and lose its decorative effect. Of course, it will bloom, but reality will be far from the ideal picture.
For petunia to grow with dignity and give all the best, you need from 5-7 to 50 liters per plant! And this is a busy place, the cost of buying a container and soil.
Well, now the most important thing is about the quirks of our beloved petunia)
Petunia is capricious and that's a fact. It is worth "skipping" a couple of days of careful care - and the lashes take on a very, very depressing look.
It is known that petunia does not bloom well in the shade, preferring a place in the sun. Despite the fact that the plant drinks a lot, and the soil under the rays dries out at lightning speed, containers and pots have to be watered daily, or even 2 times a day. I am already silent that the petunia needs to be regularly fed and formed - otherwise you will not wait for a decent flowering.
Do you agree that besides petunia there are many other worthy and beautiful annuals? Please put "Thumbs up" in response. Thank you, my darlings! ❤ I also recommend reading: Early zucchini harvest to the envy of a neighbor: the nuances of turbo acceleration
