Hot time to sow peppers for seedlings π 5 points of success for summer residents
A fiery salute, comrades Vegetable growers! πΆ
Do you want to grow healthy seedlings of pepper, which in summer (and it will come very soon - faster than we think now!) Will give a good harvest? I consider it my duty to remind the work advice β They are based on the characteristics of sweet (bell peppers) as a vegetable crop and many years of practical experience of other summer residents. Therefore, we read to the end, remember or save my memo!
β I must admit that pepper is not the fastest crop. She needs to "swing"
Bell peppers are definitely not a crop that can be postponed. I grow mid to late ripening varieties in a greenhouse. I always sow in February, even before the second popular crop - tomatoes.
In order not to miscalculate, be sure to check the growing season of your particular variety. The one you chose before sowing. Usually, the preferred sowing date is written on the seed bag.
But in any case, I'm sure that February is the best time. Not later than! So my humble experience has shown.
β Unnecessary and unnecessary manipulations with seeds
If you read the recommendations for preparing seeds for sowing, you may get the impression that you need to start soaking peppers in all kinds of alchemical solutions from the New Year)
For several years in a row I experimented, and my personal opinion: nothing but checking the planting material for germination (I will soon write the recipe on my channel, if someone does not know it) should not be done. Yes, I think soaking in fungicides, growth stimulants, useless in our case, succinic acid and so on, is absolutely superfluous.
From the author: Now I always sow seeds with the "hot" method: I spill ordinary store-bought soil (I can add perlite and vermiculite - this is only beneficial, but not necessary) with very warm water. Just before sowing
I think this way: what is great will grow by itself, and what is not - alas, let the worthy and the strongest take a place under the sun. The natural choice, so to speak.
β Light and darkness. It would seem, where does the seeds
We must accept, as true, 2 facts:
- Until the moment of germination, light is not needed! There is still no green part that carries out photosynthesis. In order for the seeds to germinate as soon as possible, only 2 components are needed: high humidity and high temperature. I definitely make a greenhouse and put it in a dark boiler room. You can put it on a radiator, but put a book so that the seeds do not cook (if you have powerful heating in your house).
- Springs appeared - now the maximum light! But the temperature can now be turned down. I rearrange containers with seedlings on the brightest windowsill in my house and illuminate them with an LED lamp around the clock until real leaves grow.
In general, as soon as the green part began to take shape, a maximum of light. And make sure that the soil does not dry out. Because while the root system is very small and the stem is thin, even a short drought will turn the shoots into withered stems.
β About transfer / pick
I'll be brief. I do not dive peppers - seedlings do not survive root pinching well.
I'm overloading. Where can we go without it?
For the first time from a common container into separate cups, when the seedlings more or less acquire the shape of a plant. You hesitate - and the roots will intertwine with each other, which will make the planting painful for the pepper. The second time - if necessary in a large dish.
β The only top dressing that pepper seedlings need
Summer residents who feed the seedlings almost from the moment the seedlings are pecked are touched. Well, the plants don't need it! There are enough nutrients in the soil. But top dressing can "lazy" seedlings: the root system will not develop properly. Why would she work if she was already getting food?
I only do one top dressing. I bring in calcium. Oddly enough, but in plants, like in humans, it is responsible for the strength of the "skeleton". And our Bulgarian seedlings must be strong! Therefore, every time the seedlings reach a height of 8-10 cm, I feed them with calcium nitrate.
