How to install a marble countertop. Features of natural stone furniture
Rectangular rooms facing north have few options for placing a workspace, especially when a large desk area is required. If the window is placed on the end wall opposite the entrance, then the option of organizing a large tabletop combined with a window sill looks the most reasonable.
This is what the plan of the room looked like before renovation:
We are doing repairs for the next 10-15 years, so we decided to use only high-quality expensive materials that will not need to be changed due to rapid wear.
This is how the idea of a large surface made of natural marble was born, which will become the basis for a study-bedroom, clearly separating the recreation area.

Features of natural stone furniture
All natural materials made from quartz or other elements, even if they are processed in a workshop, have their pros and cons.
Advantages:
· Durability;
· Insensitivity to scratches and accidental impacts;
· Noble appearance with a natural pattern.
Sample of marble we have selected:
Disadvantages:
· Heavy weight (1 square weighs about 50 kg), at which a long plate will require additional support;
· The complexity of high-quality creation of bending cuts, since the edge is difficult to process;
· The need to fix the side with glue followed by processing the seams.
Support mounting and installation
After ordering the desired size in the workshop, we proceeded to prepare the installation site.
1) The walls and the window sill were leveled with drywall, on which there were already plastic windows.
2) Brackets were installed on the side walls, fixed with anchors, which are designed to hold the sides of the future tabletop. The rear part rested on the windowsill.
3) To order, a crate was welded from a square pipe with a cross section of 2x2 cm
This is what the metal grille looked like:
4) To remove the risk of breaking in the middle of a large stone canvas, the crate was not only put on brackets and a window sill, but also made special inclined supports (legs) from a square pipe with a diameter 3x3 cm. And the workshop made a plywood backing that distributed the weight over the entire area of the marble.
This is what a tabletop looks like on metal supports:
As a result, we got a desktop of more than 3 m2, on which you can place not only a working computer, but also any drawings.
The grandmother has already agreed with her son to sometimes put a sewing machine on it, because this is the largest table in the apartment.
The only question that has not yet been resolved is whether to embed hidden sockets in the countertop or use a regular block on the wall under the table. Perhaps someone will tell us the necessary arguments in favor of the beauty of a solid stone or the convenience of additional power points.
