Non-standard bath from project to implementation, many photos. Personal experience of a FORUMHOUSE participant

Our user with a nickname taras vbg I dreamed for a long time of a bath with a relaxation room and a leather sofa, so that you could relax after the steam room and drink tea with herbs. And it was not supposed to be an ordinary log house, but a modern building that went far beyond the ordinary. And as soon as the opportunity and the time appeared, he made this dream a reality.

Dream bath construction

This is what this bath consists of:

  • The foundation is tape unburied with warm floors on the ground;
  • Walls: frame made of dry planed boards 145 × 45 mm, rafters 195 × 45 mm, windproof plates, tongue-groove 20 mm;
  • Facade: dry planed board 145 × 20 mm, covering paint;
  • Roof: soft tiles.
  • Interior decoration in the recreation room: imitation of timber and dry planed board covered with wax, floor - laminate.
  • Steam room and shelves: linden.
  • Heating: hot water floors, electric boiler controlled by a weekly programmer.
  • instagram viewer
  • DHW: floor-standing boiler 150 l.
  • HVS: central.
  • Terrace: plywood walls, larch floor.

Operating procedure

The first stage is standard, except that we had to cut down the oak, which was a pity.

They removed the fertile layer of earth with a ladle, laid geotextiles, and sand on it, which was spilled and rammed in layers.

We breed with a canal, storm drain, water and electricity input and the top layer of 20-40 crushed stone with tamping.

We installed the formwork under the tape and reinforcing cages - the installation for tying the cages was made from what was at hand - everything was well strengthened with studs, all the dimensions were checked and the foundation was poured.

Further backfilling, ramming, polystyrene, underfloor heating and screed.

When assembling the frame, the most difficult thing was to dock the bath and the terrace, taking into account all the windscreens, lathing and sheet materials of different thicknesses, so that later to sew it all up with a facade board in one plane.

The same problem had to be solved with the roof, "but everything ended well."

Here's how to reinforce the rafter system above the terrace.

A windscreen was installed on the frame, then plywood on the terrace, on the OSB roof. The facade is finished with dry planed pine boards, 145x20 mm, which were primed and painted with super-resistant paint.

The thickness of the insulation does not reach the Scandinavian indicators, but it is more than sufficient for a bath: walls 150 mm, roof 150 mm + 50 mm cross.

We carefully glue all the joints of the vapor barrier, this is an important matter!

After the insulation in the wall cake, there are two layers of gypsum plasterboard, carefully coated with waterproofing mastic and gluing all corners with waterproofing tape, and then porcelain stoneware.

Window

Taras pondered for a long time how to install windows and found a simple but elegant solution.

I filled the glazing bead along the perimeter.

I glued a special sealing tape to it, so that later I could safely press the glass not against the tree. He pressed the glasses with temporary blocks, propened the perimeter, when the foam dried up, cut off everything unnecessary. Then I glued the sealing tape again, but on the glass itself. From the street side, I pressed everything with glazing beads.

Because of the sealing tape, a gap formed between the glazing bead and the glass, and Taras filled it with a colorless sealant. To achieve perfect uniformity and accuracy, we recommend using a cordless gun.

Stove and chimney

Chimney installation is the most crucial stage in the construction of a bath; so many fires happen because it's done wrong!

Here are the features of the chimney that Taras made:

  • single-walled - from 321 steel 1 mm.
  • sandwich - steel 321 (inner), steel 430 (outer).

Chimney assembly sequence:

  • determine the place where the oven will be;
  • find the axis of the chimney;
  • lay a passage element in the roof (if it is soft);
  • put the oven and start assembling from the bottom up;
  • it is imperative to install a device to lower the smoke temperature at the start, it can be either a pipe heater or an evaporator.

Further gate, transition to a sandwich, two sandwich knees, deflector.

It is clear that the most extreme section in this structure is the passage of the chimney through the covering and the roof. The most important thing is that there is no unprotected tree on it. You can secure everything with a ready-made box, you can (with experience and understanding of the principle) sew everything up yourself.

taras vbg

This is a serious matter, so everything should be clear.

For reliability, Taras installed a special sensor on the pipe, which measures the temperature at the place of its passage in the ceiling. A certain temperature is set on the sensor - if it is exceeded, the device will beep heart-rendingly.

taras vbg

The temperature, I can tell you, is not low there, 150 degrees, or even higher, so the tree must be protected, and you need to periodically inspect everything.

And after installing the stove, he immediately made a on-pipe heater to remove the heat from the pipe a little at the start. The stove proved to be excellent, not a single minus was revealed.

Steam room

The steam room is finished with linden: the floor frame is made of planed linden blocks, the boards are also linden. Taras heard that this tree “smells cool” after the heating of the bath, but did not expect that so much - the incredible linden scent enhances the pleasure of bath procedures a hundredfold.

But: quite often, unfortunately, unscrupulous sellers slip aspen instead of linden. Outwardly, these two types of wood are very similar, so it is better to play it safe and buy from trusted suppliers.

There is also a mini-boiler room in the bathhouse. All week the warm floor "lives" on a cheap night rate and maintains a positive temperature in the bath, and by Saturday heats the room properly. The programmer controls the connection and disconnection of the floor.

Restroom

The rest room is the decoration of this bath, and it is clear that it cost Taras dearly. It is finished with imitation of a timber of 145x20 mm (both walls and ceiling), treated with wax of a beautiful shade in two layers.

Where the firebox is a dry planed glued board 195x29 mm, it is covered with the same wax, just like an aged wood. I desperately didn’t want a tile on the floor, so "we decided to lay a laminate and not to steam."

The height of the room at the lowest point is two meters at the lowest point and 2.65-2.7 under the ridge. The large area of glazing turned out to be a good decision, the owner of the bath did not regret it.

Engineering systems

There are several "tricks" here: to prevent the water supply to the bathhouse from freezing in winter, Taras brought an anti-freeze tap to the facade: when you twist it, in the house the supply is completely shut off, and the water drains from the tap all, without a trace - thus, freeze nothing.

In the steam room, volley ventilation is made, as in all normal steam rooms, and a diffuser is installed in the ceiling of the shower room, which is connected with a corrugated air duct to a vent fungus on the roof. The diffuser can be opened and closed completely or partially, and thus the volume of the extract air can be controlled.

taras vbg

I believe that ventilation in the shower is necessary, and the option with access to the roof is optimal.

The drainage system completely removes all the problems that might arise due to the lack of overhangs. And since the lining is fixed with a spike up, there is simply no place for moisture to accumulate.

Sauna regimen and estimate

In the steam room, Taras tries to adhere to the following indicators: temperature +65 degrees, humidity 40-50%. For his taste, this is the most optimal mode.

How much did this bath cost? When expenses exceeded the threshold of 600,000 rubles (at 2017 prices), its owner spat on the calculations, but says that in the end it cost him "somewhere around a million", about 25,000-27,000 rubles per square meter.

conclusions

Such a bath may seem off-budget, but it is worth the money. We are moving out of town, among other things, because life in an individual house is much more comfortable than in a high-rise apartment, and the bathhouse is one of the main components of this comfort. Is it worth saving on it? Unusual architecture, large glass area, linden decoration of the steam room, a beautiful terrace - all this makes the bath not just a place for rest and relaxation, but a real pride of the site.
