The most successful Apple Rootstocks, especially for those who want to get an Abundant and high-quality Harvest every year

The apple tree is generally an unpretentious crop, but in order to be guaranteed to collect an appetizing and rich harvest, I prefer to grow it not separately, but as a scion.

And the choice of stock for an apple tree, of course, is of great importance.

After delving into the scientific literature on botany and horticulture, I came to the following conclusions:

1. The best rootstocks for apple trees are the same apple trees, but of different varieties, as well as wild apple trees, and from other species - pear, chokeberry and cotoneaster.

2. Secondary in quality, but also worthy, may be a stock of bird cherry, quince, irgi, mountain ash, viburnum or bird cherry.

I also want to note that rootstocks are:

1. Seed - grown from seeds. Ideal for the wild apple tree, and of the varieties, the old Antonovka manifests itself luxuriously. The seed stock is resistant to bad weather and typical apple diseases. The taste of the crop is simply amazing!

2. Clonal - grown in a vegetative way. Unlike the previous type, these trees, after grafting, are short. And in my opinion this is the best option - because it provides early maturity and an annual increase in yield.

But there are also disadvantages - a weak root system and dependence on weather conditions.

In my garden there are rootstocks from a Chinese lily apple tree (simply - Kitayka) and, in principle, when choosing seed, I think this is a brilliant option, the yield is consistently high.

But according to the results of many years of experience, not only mine, but also professional apple connoisseurs, it turned out that that Kitayka is an unsuitable stock for the varieties Cinnamon striped, Anise, Papirovka, Bubushkino and Borovinka.

I would also like to separately recommend two more summing ups:

1. 54-118 - I grow on it, for example, Renet Simerenko and Idared. It is characterized by restrained growth, which makes it possible to obtain compact trees even for vigorous varieties.

Also, the stock demonstrates resistance to root system wetting - this allows you not to worry about the quality of the crop even in a rainy summer.

2. MM 106 - I collect Gala Mast, Golden Delicious and Florina from him. It is included in the group of medium-sized and semi-dwarf rootstocks. One of the advantages is that root growth is not formed.

The crop can be harvested already 4-5 after planting. The long growing season allows harvesting almost until October.
