The hyacinth from the Magnet has faded. What to do next with the bulb?

Greetings to everyone interested in our article!

I love hyacinths very much. When they bloom, they give off an aroma that cannot be compared with any essential oil, even the most beloved. Still, the natural aromas of flowers are something that does not irritate, but on the contrary gives an extremely pleasant sensation.

Once upon a time, my husband gave me several types of hyacinths for the first time on March 8. Here are all the colors that were on sale in Magnet, I bought everything. The house then smelled sweet for a long time. But when the hyacinth faded, I did not immediately understand what to do next with the bulbs, how to care for or transplant. Then, when I was presented with hyacinths for the first time, these flowers were unfamiliar to most, and now they are already familiar and even for someone a preferred gift instead of a standard bouquet.

Hyacinths are very unpretentious flowers, they reproduce willingly and are easy to care for. But few people know the intricacies of the care and storage of the bulbs after they have faded. I think this problem is still relevant for many women, so I decided to write everything in order.

As the hyacinth fades, do not cut off the wilted flower stalks immediately, but wait until they naturally dry out to the end and even seed rudiments appear. Then you can remove it with scissors and then wait until all the green mass above the bulb has dried. Only after the leaves have completely dried out can you cut everything off, clean the bulbs from the remnants of the foliage.

After cutting off the dried peduncle for at least a month, and preferably two, the plant you need to continue to water and even feed in order for the bulbs to gain strength and nutrition for the entire hibernation period until the next junction of winter and spring, when it is necessary to repeat the forcing procedure for a festive flowering.

After a month or two, you need to completely stop watering and feeding and let the plant and soil dry out completely. In this form, in the same pot and soil, the bulbs should continue to dry out.

If you see that the earth is dry and easily separates from the bulb, then you can carefully remove it from the pot and clean the bulbs from the remnants of the earth, excess husk, dried aerial parts and even children from the bulb separate. Hibernation of hyacinths in the ground weakens the plant and next year it will not bloom as it did this year. Therefore, it is better to dig it up and put it on paper in a dark place, start preparing for storage.

8-9 weeks after cleaning the bulbs from the ground, it is advisable to keep them at a temperature of + 20 ° C. This will ensure the flakes dry naturally and perfectly. The temperature can be increased up to + 30 ° С, which will shorten the drying period.

Then you can gradually shift to cooler places weekly, if possible. I did not have the opportunity to provide such conditions, so I immediately transferred it to the cellar, having previously wrapped each bulb in parchment paper.

Peeled bulbs can be wrapped in plastic wrap, leaving a crack for air to enter, and refrigerated if there is no cellar or basement. Clay wrap is a must if you have a "No frost" feature in your refrigerator, which draws moisture out of everything. It is also recommended to first wrap the bulbs in moss, then in film and store in this form in the refrigerator. But try not to create friction and pressure on the bulbs to avoid damage. The storage temperature for hyacinth bulbs is considered favorable at about +3 degrees.

A couple of months before March 8 (when it is necessary for them to bloom), hyacinths can begin to be planted in the ground, distilled, which I will write in more detail about in the required season.
