Do you want a record tomato harvest in the new year? Find out when it is better and how to properly grow Tomatoes for seedlings
There are tomatoes in every summer cottage. A good harvest can be obtained only when high-quality seed has been prepared and agrotechnical rules are observed when caring for seedlings.
They are not complicated, but sometimes the slightest mistake can lead to undesirable consequences. I will share my method of growing tomato seedlings.
Where to begin
I prepare the seed myself. I choose a few tomatoes of the variety I like, wait for them to fully ripen, take out the seeds along with the pulp and put them on paper on the windowsill.
After drying, I rinse well with water and again put it in a warm, bright place. When the seeds are dry, I label each variety and store until planting.
Before laying them in the ground, I dip them into the water. I throw away the seeds that remain on the surface, they are "empty" and will not germinate. I place the full-fledged material in a weak manganese solution, I do not use other disinfectants.
This is what my mother always did, and this is what I do. Then I wash it, put it on cheesecloth and dry it.
Germinate also in gauze. I spread it on one layer so that the seeds do not touch each other, and I close it with the other and periodically wet it.
What soil do I plant and how do I care
You can buy a special tomato seedling mix at the store.
I cook myself:
· I take thorny soil, peat and sand, just one part;
· I add a glass of ash infusion;
· Humus, in a ratio with soil 1: 2.
I try to prepare the soil mixture since the fall. She will lie in the air, and the low temperature will cope with larvae and pests.
The time of planting seeds varies, depending on the weather: otherwise planting occurs at the end of February, sometimes in March.
I do not dive the seedlings, but immediately plant them in separate peat pots. In order not to spend money on them, I use bags from milk, kefir, sour cream.
I pre-wash them in a manganese solution, then I fill them with ready-made soil and carefully, so as not to damage the sprout, I put the seeds. I wet the soil very much, because the seeds are light and can be on the surface when watering.
To create a greenhouse effect, I cover them with plastic wrap. I put the dishes with future seedlings in a lighted warm place, where the sun hits only in a diffused form.
After about 7 days, sometimes more, the first shoots appear: I remove the foil and move the pots to a cooler place. At this stage, the sprouts feel comfortable at a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius.
I water seedlings no more than once a week. I use water at the same temperature as in the room where it is located.
I feed 4 times during the entire growing season.
