What made me take up the renovation of the apartment on my own and bring it to the end

For 20 years, professional finishers have done repairs in my apartment. The spatula and trowel were almost magic wands for me. So evenly spreading the putty on the wall is aerobatics. I closely watched the work of the masters. Well, how do they do that?! This was an incomprehensible science to me. Until one day one incident happened.

Why did I decide to do the repair myself

It was rather a sad case. My neck began to hurt a lot. Having visited a neurologist, I learned that the best cure for spasms of the cervical muscles is active hand movements. I wondered - what should I do? And then a brilliant idea came to my mind - I need to do some repairs. First, working with a spatula stimulates this activity. And secondly, these are obligations - once you start repairs, you will not leave, you will not say that you are tired, and you will not skip like a gym.

We have a room in a communal apartment. We don't live there, but use it for work. No repairs were made there for 10 years. Where else to train, if not there. I don't want to spend a lot, and there are not many complaints about quality - the main thing is to keep it clean. So I became a finisher.

What did it take for me

After assessing the condition of the room, I came to the conclusion that I would have to putty the walls and ceiling, facing the fireplace, and wallpapering the walls. I stopped my choice on the following building materials:

1. Soil "Betonkontakt" with quartz sand. Plaster mortar and adhesive for clinker tiles fit well on it.

2. Dry plaster mix "Rotbant".

3. Primer for "Ceresit" stitching.

4. Dry mix for plaster "Acrylput" finishing.

5. Unigrunt of the German brand "Dufa". This is a unique primer for paper wallpaper. When dry, it resembles papier-mâché applied to the wall.

6. Paper wallpaper. They were chosen because the walls were covered with them earlier.

7. Adhesive for paper wallpaper.

That's all the materials. I met him when professional craftsmen worked for me. My choice of tools was limited to a set of spatulas and a spatula. I also needed a bucket for mixing dry mixes and glue.

How I worked

The first thing I did was rip off the old wallpaper and plaster. I applied Betonkontakt diluted with water to the cleaned walls and ceiling. It needs to be diluted so that the grains of quartz sand are distributed more evenly. The primer dries up in about two hours. Then you can start plastering. The house is old there, the walls are brick. The plaster mortar holds them well and clogs the resulting cracks.

The plaster dries for a day. On the second day, I covered it with a filler primer. When it dried up, she leveled the walls with Akrilputom. The work was not so difficult. The main thing is to properly dilute the putty. In consistency, it should resemble a thick dough without lumps. Then she lies flat.

There were drawbacks in the work - it was not possible to smoothly wipe the putty on the ceiling. Came to eliminate them with paint. I bought a textured shagreen paint. She successfully hid all the flaws. I decorated the wall behind the fireplace with the same paint.

The plastered walls were covered with "Unigrunt". The paper wallpaper was superbly laid on it.

Result

Conclusions from the event:

1. I learned to putty! It turned out that everything is comprehensible.

2. The neck is gone. The neurologist is no longer needed.

3. The room is cleaned up.

A pleasant bonus was the cost savings, which amounted to approximately 20,000 rubles. This is the amount that would have to be paid for the work of the masters.
