Why in Uzbekistan in private houses there are no windows to the street
Many people imagine Uzbekistan as a backward country where only cotton is grown and sheep are grazed on the mountain slopes. In fact, this is a completely civilized state with beautiful modern cities. But in rural areas, as a rule, people still live the old way. I will tell you why people in villages still try to build houses without windows on the street.
Purity
The first and probably the most important reason is dust. The countryside is very dusty. Moreover, the dust is very corrosive, gray, accumulates quickly and leaves traces on everything. On the street side, there is much more dust, since there are few green spaces.
They try to plant fruit trees in the courtyard of each house, which, as they grow, fulfill their protective function.
All windows in the house open onto a long patio terrace. The windows are low - a person of average height can easily clean the window without even using a stand. And you have to wash often - from the same dust.
Safe fortress
This arrangement is also done for security purposes - there is no need for bars, and outsiders cannot get in from the outside, except through the gate in the yard. In addition, in ancient times, people built their homes, being wary of neighboring tribes. The house turned out to be like a small fortress without vulnerable spots on the outside.
"Anti-theft system
An ancient custom of the peoples of Central Asia and the Caucasus is bride stealing. Of course, in our time this is preliminarily agreed upon, and the bride can be stolen only during the wedding celebration. But they used to steal without any consent. Therefore, a house without windows to the outside could serve as a good protection from uninvited guests.
Another justification for this fact came from Islam, where it is not customary for strangers to see female representatives. The men built the house in such a way that no one could see their wife, and the young girl herself was not tempted to sit by the window. Otherwise, some daredevil will take and steal it.
