Why not put the bathtub on the tiles? Our bathroom renovation (errors)
When repairing, I want to do everything right. How to install, fix a bathroom on a tile? Can I put tiles on the floor under the bathtub? Sustainability of plumbing is the basis for renovation.
If the bath is made of cast iron, then a large load arises. Weight can reach up to 140 kg. It is chosen because of its strength and resistance to mechanical damage.
When we started the renovation, it took a long time to decide which bathtub to buy: acrylic, cast iron or metal.
We threw away the old cast-iron bathtub, on which the acrylic insert was glued (on polyurethane foam). We didn’t want to buy cast iron anymore, since it couldn’t be installed on the tiles. And the steel bath is thundering. It is necessary to additionally make noise insulation.
We chose acrylic. It is quite light (up to 30 kg.), There is a lot of choice of models, it is easy to care for and installation is faster.
But she was on her feet. You can't fix it on the tiles (that's what those who made our repairs said). Such baths are unstable, they can slide on the tiles.
It is also not advisable to fasten the legs to the tile with anchors. Therefore, they did this: they removed the legs and put the bath on the bricks. Additionally, a frame was made of bars on 3 sides.
2 years have passed since the renovation, the bathtub does not stagger, it stands firmly.
For cast iron baths installation on tiles is contraindicated. The weight of the tub will erode the floor. The bath is about 100 kg, plus if you take water and take into account the weight of a person, then such a load will simply destroy the tiles.
But there is output: Place metal plates 2-4 mm thick. Some put foam blocks under the legs so that they do not stagger and so as not to damage the tiles.
Glued pieces of plywood, textolite will do. What is not put under the legs: heel coins, glued pieces of OSB, which are fixed to the floor with a sealant.
Acrylic and steel tubs can be installed on tiles. But they are lightweight and can slide on smooth surfaces. Therefore, they are also attached to the walls and floor.
By the way, look our renovation with problems with neighbors and bugs.
