Angela Merkel lives in an apartment! Why an apartment, and not a country penthouse?
The head of the Federal Republic of Germany lives in an ordinary apartment of a multi-storey building number 6, on Am Kupfergraben street. Her housing occupies the entire second floor, or rather the third. In Germany, the first floor is not counted, it is customary to start the number of storeys from the second at number 1.
In terms of structure and layout, the building resembles our "stalinkas". It was built of bricks with reinforced concrete floors, which means that the noise and heat insulation is excellent. The roof of a house with a high-quality attic where one has only to guess that there is probably another habitable floor. The door is massive, seemingly modest, but you should not think that it is flimsy, perhaps it is armored, and the outside is sheathed with wood.
It is clear that its area in chorus is huge in comparison with our "Khrushchevs". However, it is surprising that a person of such scale and capabilities lives in an apartment. Moreover, a couple of police officers are on duty around the clock near the entrance doors. There is no bodyguard or special forces brigade.
Opposite the Chancellor's dwelling there is the Museum of Forward Asia (Western Asia Museum). I can imagine how exciting it is to drink a cup of coffee in the morning and look out the window at the most famous cultural and educational building with a collection of Eastern antiquities. By the way, Merkel does not drink coffee in the morning, but prefers mint tea.
If you walk along Am Kupfergraben street to the south, cross the Palace Bridge, you can visit the second floor of the Humbold-Box information center, where there is a realistic model of the center of Berlin. Here, the house of Angela Merkel is visible in a large scale reduction, you can clearly see how small and inconspicuous it is in comparison with other stunning buildings and architectural monuments in Germany.
Why is the Chancellor of the GDR so modest with such a status and condition?! Unknown! Perhaps she does not like to part with her old habits, because she lives in this apartment since marriage, and maybe this is some kind of PR move with which she wants to convey to the electorate that we are all equal, regardless of achievements and income.
