What tomato seedlings don't like?
Almost all gardeners are engaged in growing tomatoes on personal plots. But not all of them use their seedlings.
In most cases, tomato seedlings are bought on the market and, unfortunately, do not always correspond to the varieties that were announced on sale.
What can you do to make tomatoes delight you with their harvests? In fact, everything is not so difficult. You just need to learn how to grow seedlings yourself.
Before you start growing tomato seedlings, you should familiarize yourself with some important points. And first of all, it is better to go from the opposite, i.e. you need to find out what tomato seedlings dislike most, so as not to destroy the plants immediately after sowing the seeds.
Even if not everyone believes, but plants feel how their owners treat them. If you decide to sow seeds in a bad mood, then it is unlikely that something will sprout. You should wait for a good mood and only then get down to business.
Then the seedlings need constant monitoring. Only when you see plants every day can you notice changes for the worse and save seedlings from death.
Since tomatoes are heat-loving plants, their seedlings also require a special temperature regime. Do not allow significant temperature differences during the day and night.
If the sun shines through the windows during the day and the room is at least 20 degrees Celsius, then at night the temperature should not be allowed to drop below 16-18 degrees. Otherwise, the growth and development of young plants will slow down.
Even from our biology lessons, we know how important good lighting is for most plants. Tomatoes are no exception to the rule.
Seedlings at home are most often grown on windowsills. During the day, especially in sunny weather, there is enough light for plants.
But, firstly, not all days in winter and early spring are sunny, and the length of the day is not yet so great. Therefore, the seedlings should be provided with artificial lighting.
When there is not enough light, the plants stretch and become thinner. Color saturation also decreases, down to light green. It is impossible to subsequently grow healthy tomatoes from such seedlings.
Sometimes seedlings do not grow normally due to poor quality seeds, but most often external conditions are to blame: temperature and light.
In addition to these points, you should pay special attention to the quality of the soil for seedlings.
It is best to buy a proven soil designed for growing tomato seedlings. All proportions of soil types and nutrients will be observed in it.
Without water, no plant can grow and develop normally. But excess moisture also has a detrimental effect on seedlings. Therefore, one should observe the golden mean, not letting the soil dry out and not flooding the plants.
Even more often, insufficient watering is not as dangerous as excess moisture. When the soil is poured, the roots of plants begin to rot and it is no longer possible to save them.
Watering should be done only with water at room temperature, so as not to "chill" tender young plants.
Seedlings are fed only once or twice. If the soil is too fertilized, the plants grow too quickly and the stems stretch out.
Yes, and too large seedlings when transplanted to a permanent place are accepted worse than smaller ones. How many times has it happened that having bought a large and beautiful seedling, it was later necessary to change it to my small one.
Large, beautiful tomatoes disappeared, and small seedlings were taken instantly and grew into large and strong plants.
