Which Tomato Varieties can be sown directly into the Ground, rather than growing Seedlings. The harvest is not worse, but the Trouble is much less
You can't find a tomato lover like me all over the country. I like them both fresh and canned. Annually, about a hundred bushes are planted in their garden, using several types of plants.
I noticed that some varieties can be planted directly into the ground without growing seedlings, while others require more careful preparation.
What varieties do without seedlings
You can safely sow early ripening varieties in open ground. They do not require special care, are practically not susceptible to diseases, and give a good harvest.
These varieties include:
· Alaska. Seeds are planted on an open bed in late April. Cover with foil on top.
· Ultra-ripe Betta F1 and Biathlon F1. These hybrids are sown in open ground in early May. After 85-90 days, you can harvest.
- Boni-M. Sowed in early May, the first harvest can be removed at the end of June. If you want to get a harvest even earlier, then you should sow seeds for seedlings in early April.
- Rocket F1. The seeds are sown in the soil from mid to late May. The fruits of the tomato are oblong, fleshy.
- Ginger F1. These orange, juicy tomatoes are perfect for a fresh salad. Seeds are sown in open ground in early April. Since the fruits of the tomato are quite weighty, the plant must be tied up in the future.
So that the tomatoes give a good harvest, I start to prepare the garden in the spring. If this is done in the fall, then the weeds will sprout before the crop.
First, I put humus and a little wood ash into the ground, I carefully dig everything up. I moisten the ground and plant the seeds to a depth of 1 cm. I cover with foil. A week later, I have the first shoots.
Method advantages
The positive aspects of the methods include a stronger root system of the plant. In a small glass, the seedlings cannot form powerful roots. A strong rhizome helps the plant to grow a lush green mass, accelerates the formation of the ovary.
Since tomatoes are immediately planted in a permanent place, they do not experience the stress associated with replanting. And most importantly, the plant that was planted with seeds in the ground is not affected by the black leg.
Planting seeds outdoors saves not only money (no need to buy cups, use additional lighting and heating), but also time. There is no need for picking, transportation, transfer to a permanent place.
The only drawback is the fact that the seeds have poor germination. But I easily solve this problem by sowing 2 times more seeds than I need.
