Cellar with arched brick vaults with your own hands
A cellar or caisson for a well is a common and necessary underground structure on the site. Depending on their design, there will be a different budget for their construction. Consider one of the forgotten types of buildings: a brick cellar with arched vaults.
Arched vaults and brick floors have always been considered the simplest and at the same time reliable. In our age of concrete and reinforcement, technology has almost disappeared. But if you build a high-quality ceramics cellar using this technology, it will be cheaper than a reinforced concrete one. And also, the complexity of its construction is much lower than monolithic (with your own hands).
Masonry scheme. The brick in the arch works in compression and the arch can withstand heavy loads. The main thing is that the walls do not part with a small radius of the arch. The walls need to be abutted against the ground or an arch with a radius of exactly half a circle should be made - then there will be a vertical load on the walls.
An arched vault is a good option for floors if you need a pantry, hangar, or a shallow cellar. An arched design will help save your budget. Of the main costs: foundation pit, small strip foundation, 1 thous. bricks, roll waterproofing on top of the arch, door - and the structure is ready. Budget: ~ 30 thousand rub.
Construction process: a foundation pit was dug (in this case, by hand). The process is simplified by the fact that the cellar will be on a slope. Then the slab and foundation were poured with composite reinforcement. The walls were folded with external insulation. We made a frame for laying the arched part. It will take about 500 bricks for an arched vault.
Inside view and arches above the entrance. The photographs show the process of erecting Omshanik for winter storage of bees. This is not a complete cellar. Cellar with a clone. Sometimes that's enough.
Another example. A similar design of the cellar for another self-builder. An important element is a template made of supports and plywood. The geometry must be correct. Here the author used hollow brick. This is not quite the right decision.
If you think that the arched vault of bricks is not reliable enough, you can lay a masonry mesh on top and coat it with thick concrete. It will also provide additional waterproofing.
The walls of the cellar can be built from blocks, and the arch can be made from reinforced concrete. Reinforcement in one layer (as opposed to horizontal slab). Here, too, savings.
The cost of a similar, but reinforced concrete cellar. The difference in price is almost an order of magnitude. There is another inexpensive option for building a cellar - a cellar made of concrete rings for a septic tank (cesspool). But the maximum radius of such a cellar is 2 m. This is not always enough. And the design of the cylinder is an inconvenient geometry for the design of the shelves.
