For some reason, developers very often make the center of our house a long, narrow "pencil case"! As a result, it looks awkward, and sometimes even ugly. And if suddenly you are incredibly "lucky" to be the happy owner of such a space, then do not be discouraged! Since there is a minimum 5 work life hacks to help transform a disproportionate room into a stylish, functional and comfortable space.

Well, let's get down to design "correction" of a narrow room?

1.Functional zoning. Remember! The longer and larger the room, the easier it is to identify functional areas in it. For example, in addition to the traditional seating area with a sofa and a TV, in such a room you can organize a dining area and even a workspace. The only thing to correctly delineate a room is to choose the right decor! It will help you identify each functional area, but it will also leave the living room as a whole.

So, you can visually divide the living room using color, pattern (on the walls) or, for example, using a carpet. But there is one caveat! Its dimensions must necessarily correspond to the proportions of the room, otherwise disharmony may occur.

2.Playing with color. Have you noticed that a long room always gives the impression of a corridor? So, to break this effect, you need to choose the right color for the walls! It is advisable to use light colors - this will help visually expand the space. At the same time, one of the walls can be painted in a dark contrasting shade in order to introduce asymmetry into the interior of the living room, in addition to giving it a “zest”.

Also, bright, "tasty" wallpaper on one of the walls will help to "destroy" the monotony of long planes.

3.Shallow sofa. Ever seen a living room without a sofa? No? I also! Then we learn to choose it correctly. First of all, evaluate the size of your room (width, depth, height) in order to find furniture in proportion to these indicators. For reference: usually a sofa for 2 or 3 seats is placed in standard apartments. With these requirements, its length is 90 cm - 1 m. So, you can put a longer sofa in a narrow living room (and this will be reasonable).

But it's not worth increasing its depth. And one more thing: try to avoid placing corner sofas, they make the space heavier, emphasize its negative sides!

4."Extensive" floor. Do you think the floor can visually change the size of the room? In fact, yes. This is possible only under one condition, namely: the parquet, laminate or board will be wide enough! Since a narrow parquet or other covering with a small pattern visually reduces the size of the room.

And usually the direction of the picture along the floor goes along the rays from the main light source. However, in the case of a long narrow living room, the herringbone style is best suited.

5."Ground" furniture. Remember what oriental style looks like in the interior? No? But in vain! After all, it is great for long and narrow rooms. Do you know why? Because low furniture contributes to free movement around the room and has a significant impact on the perception of the volume of the room. So everything is down: TV, slide, sofa, table.

If this decision is not to your liking, then try at least to pick up furniture of all kinds of shapes. It will 100% break the existing geometry. For example, a small oval or round coffee table is a great solution. Poufs near the sofa will help to organize additional seating for guests, beneficially changing the living room space.

No room on the floor? It doesn't matter either! In this case, you can use a low rack or shelves of an unusual shape.
