Which dowel is suitable for aerated concrete? Part 1: nylon and metal fasteners
What kind of dowel is needed for aerated concrete - the question arises when it is necessary to hang something on the wall. We will answer it, because no one wants a new TV set to fall to the floor with its bracket and torn out anchors.
What fasteners are suitable for aerated concrete
Aerated concrete is a porous material in which dowels, intended for solid materials - brick and concrete, do not work. Due to the peculiarity of the gas block, it is necessary to use specialized fasteners. Let's consider two of them: nylon and metal dowels.
Nylon dowel
The nylon dowel has four outer, high expansion ribs that secure the shape during installation. The ribs create a large area of adhesion to the base material. To mount the nylon fasteners, a hole is prepared, the size of which is slightly smaller than the dowel. Further, the hole is blown out and the fastener is hammered with a hammer flush with the surface. We turn the screw - it's done!
Metal dowel (crocodile)
The metal dowel can withstand higher loads. The people call this mount a crocodile. It got this name because of the external teeth, which provide a high bearing capacity. The installation of a metal dowel is similar to the installation of a nylon one, but there is a difference: a metal mount can be hammered with a hammer if there is no drill at hand.
